@bigsam:
Yup, it appears that launch date thingie has gone by the wayside. I've spent more than my fair share of dirhams buying the local newspapers to see an announcement that has yet to be made. Newspapers are still advertising the Touch! Let's hope they're not wanting to sell the TyTNII for $900!

Omni looks more chic and sleek than the Kaiser but it certainly does not look smaller and lighter in the pictures I have seen. Anyone have the specs?

About the screen.. the 65K color depth given is not because they're stingy but it's because of the Windows Mobile limitations..
So it's not the hardware but software limitation.

Zaid I am acctually a pre-med student, and personally I would pick up the TyTn II. The features (full gps, TouchFLO, and WM6), in my opinion, are much better suited for a med student who needs to be very well organized. Also, a touch screen and full qwerty keyboard makes everything faster and much more user friendly. I am an avid hater of Symbian phones, so you have to take what I say with a grain of salt, but as far as my next phones are concerned they will all be required to have a qwerty keyboard and touchscreen at least.

HTC Updates and Upgrades Pocket PC Phone
Tuesday, 10:58 AM source: HTC
HTC Europe today announced the TYTN II, their new top-end GSM/HSDPA Windows Mobile phone. This followup to the TYTN platform (sold on AT&T as the 8525) has a similar body with a slide-out keyboard, however now the screen can be tilted up when the keyboard is slid open. The camera has also been upgraded to 3 Megapixels with auto-focus and GPS has been added. It still features quad-band GSM/EDGE and tri-band HSDPA, Wif-Fi and Bluetooth, a QVGA touch screen and a MicroSD slot. It will also feature Windows Mobile 6 Professional and the new HTC home screen introduced on the Touch. The TYTN II will launch throughout Europe in September on carriers as well as with the HTC brand.

I just read an overview of the Qualcomm processor used in this phone, and it looks like it takes on a similar architecture style to that of the well-known OMAP2 processor, (used in the nokia n95 and e90) like the use of a dedicated 3D graphics engine and dedicated DSP. However there are a few small differences, such as a ARM9 processor included for modem functions, 2 DSPs instead of just 1, and some different hardware accelerated features integrated into the ARM11 powered cpu... Oh yeah, did i mention that it also runs at a higher clock rate as well? 70Mhz faster.
I'm thinking that this particular Qualcomm unit may have the upper hand when compared directly to the OMAP2... I must say, i'm kind of jealous. I'd love to have this phone - the only thing it lacks is a VGA resolution screen!

HTC's website says that the TyTN II supports the SD 2.0 standard. I guess this would mean it supports Micro SDHC cards. Does anyone know the speed specifications for the HDSC (Class 2, 4 or 6) supported by the TyTN II?
