my huawei Y300 has stopped. just last night about 8pm, July 3, 2014. up to now. I got this phone for free under my smart gold sim post paid line. please help or any suggestion. does it have a center for repair here in the phillipines or near Sm San Lazaro, Caloocan or SM NOrth Eds. I'm sure this phone will choke with a file size like this : 569.39MB. Even Custom ROMs are only about 150 - 200MB + GAPPS of between 15 - 80MB for the basic versions.
What have they shoved into this security patch.

If you use the method for rooting as described in the YouTube 30 min. vid., you don't need to rely on Huawei for the bootloader code, at all.
It gets generated for you from within the 20MB prog. you use (on Windows PC/laptop) for rooting the phone.
That has an added benefit : If you save a .zip file of the original 4.1.1 Huawei OS, and have problems with the phone within warranty period, you can send in for repairs & Huawei have no record of you rooting the phone in the first place - (need to get rid of SuperSU icon for eg on the phone, and any files showing ref to rooting, using a file manager - TWRP etc.).
But, essentially, you'll have restored back to Stock ROM, 100% that way.

I had this phone for a half a year approx. and was satisfied with it, it's a decent device for that money. Unfortunately lacks memory, but other than that no probs whatsoever. The rooting is unusal, but Huawei was cooperative and received the bootloader unlock code next day. One of the best phone in the low end category.

asa, 25 Jun 2014How to install those ROMsYou first need to root - have posted a comment in last few minutes with a link (which includes a 30 minute YouTube vid you can & should follow).
The process does work - once you've got that far, then re-post a question about Custom ROMs ; I should be following the Y300 thread, and can give you added info then.
I currently have CyanogenMod 4.4.3 on my Y300 so have been through the whole process.

Ensure you watch the You Tube clip while carrying out the first process to root (note that you may need to update a Huawei driver - unzip & run it - which is what stalled me in the beginning)."

I think that any one who wants to buy a cheap android phone would not find one better. My daughter,who has a IPhone 4 ,found it would do everything that it could do,at a fraction of the cost.only if you wish to go for a 4G will you find any great difference. The question is?Do you want a status symbol,or a fully functional PHONE.

vins, 23 Jun 2014How to add calendarIf you've got a Google account, use their calendar to fill in your events, then it will sync with the rest of the account (GMail, Keep for notes if you want etc.)
I update my calendar events on PC as it's easier, then sync afterwards & it works perfectly.
If you get that far, when you open the calendar on the phone, touch down-arrow key just below date (top-left) on phone, and select "Agenda" - that will show your events in date order.

i love this phone but its giving me some probs that am not happy with. i 1st got this phone in the 1st week of may, two weeks later the speakers stopped working and i took it back to where i bought it. they sent it in and a week later i was given a new phone. have been using the new one for the past three weeks now and i noticed that when am driving with the gps it will suddenly hang or freeze. then i'll have to close the maps or restart the phone,and then after sometime it will do the samething again. what can i do to stop this?
