Huawei Honor 10 in for review

Ro, 19 May 2018

Huawei's affordable flagship, the Honor 10, aims to deliver the P20 experience to those unwilling to actually fork the cash for the real thing. It does cut some corners, but for the most part the Honor 10 does a pretty great Huawei P20 impersonation while costing significantly less.

Both phones have the HiSilicon Kirin 970 at their hearts, which makes the Honor 10 the most affordable device with the high-end SoC. It also comes with 4GB of RAM and 64 or 128GB of internal storage. Even the battery capacity remained the same at 3,400 mAh and given the fact that the screen has a smaller 5.84" diagonal we can expect even better endurance here.

The screen resolution of 1080 x 2280 pixels, should strike a good balance between density and power consumption too. We can confirm the sharpness is fine, but we'll need to run the full battery test to know about the latter.

The camera setup is another area where the Honor 10 and P20 part ways. The Honor 10 goes for the a 16MP RGB sensor with f/1.8 lens + 24MP monochrome one as opposed to the 12MP + 20MP combo on the P20. The Honor flagship lacks OIS as well as the Leica branding and the color modes that come with that.

But while the specs might be different here and there, the Honor 10 makes no compromises when it comes to build quality. Its aluminum side frame and glass back look and feel every bit flagship material. The only noticeable difference we noticed is the P20 features smoother edges where the glass panels meet the aluminum side frame.

So depending on how its camera compares to its more premium sibling, the Honor 10 might be a proper gem of a discounted flagship. We'll also closely compare the two displays to see if any downgrades occurred there as well. All will be clear, once the full review graces our homepage.

112GB is approximately available for usage as apps are already installed which can be deleted though!

Not ordinary like rgb+rgb setup, so it should be serious shooter even without leica branding. That is if sensors work together. No leica so probably also no HDR like in p20pro, wonder.

There's a fingerprint on the front and in display navigation bar. Why don't use the fingerprint as well as the home buttons. Got more space on display without the navigation bar
