Huawei Maimang 5 is official in China, might be called G9 elsewhere

Vlad, 14 July, 2016

As we told you last week when it first leaked, the Huawei Maimang 5 has become official today. This is the successor to the Maimang 4 - and since that model went on sale outside of China as the Huawei G8, we assume the new handset might be known as the G9 in other countries. A G9 lite has already been outed, so this would complement that nicely in the company's international portfolio.

The Maimang 5 has a 5.5-inch 1080p IPS LCD touchscreen, a 16 MP rear camera with dual-LED flash and 4K video recording support, an 8 MP selfie cam, Qualcomm's Snapdragon 625 at the helm (with a 2 GHz octa-core Cortex-A53 CPU), 3 or 4GB of RAM, 32 or 64GB of expandable storage, 4G, and a 3,340 mAh battery.

It runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Huawei's EMUI 4.1 on top. Its dimensions are 151.8 x 75.7 x 7.3 mm, and it weighs 160g. It's got a metal construction, and a fingerprint scanner on the back. It will be offered in the three color versions portrayed above.

The first to go on sale will be the gold one with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. This will be available on July 21 through Huawei's own online store in China, priced at CNY 2,599 (that's $388 or €349 at the moment).

The GR5 IS the honor 5X, just the international naming. Price is definitely OK, against K4 Note I'd pick it as the K4 Note's camera is horrendous.
