Huawei Mate 20 official invite reveals square camera setup and AI focus
Huawei announced the launch date of the Mate 20 series at IFA, but now we got an official save-the-date-prompt in our mailbox, revealing details and confirming rumors that have been circling in the past 10 days.
Huawei Mate 20 and Huawei Mate 20 Pro will be the first Kirin 980-powered smartphones and will maintain the company's dedication to AI features. The chipset in the image is strategically positioned in the central upper part of the smartphone outline, confirming the square camera setup that was leaked numerous times.
The Kirin 980, also introduced in Berlin, is the first chipset in the world, built on the 7nm process by TSMC. Huawei promised 46% faster and 178% more power-efficient GPU. The overall performance boost that one brings is said to be 37%. The new Mate 20 phones will have CAT 21 LTE modem that can go as high as 1,732 Mbps.
Looking at the camera department, the Mate 20 phones will likely have the same 40 MP + 20 MP B/W + 8 MP tele setup as the P20 Pro, but now will be in a square arrangement with the LED flash. We expect the two smartphones to be complemented by a third Porsche Edition variant, rounding up the total of new Mates up to four, if we include the Mate 20 Lite.
