Just my two cents.
For those who are considering the Mate 40 Pro in 2022. It's only worth if you can get it for cheap, AND you know how to navigate life without Google using MicroG or Google in virtual environment etc. If NEITHER condition is met, and you're not willing to adapt or find it difficult, then you're better off getting other phones. The Kirin 9000 is an amazing chipset in 2020 (better than SD865), still a good chipset in 2021 (comparable or slightly better than SD888), but started to get left behind in 2022, although, the Mate 40 Pro hardware is still amazing even in 2022, and not many smartphones has the same premium built this.
Be mindful though, the screen is prone to scratches. Having screen protector and case are highly advisable. Not to mention the Android version underneath both the EMUI and HarmonyOS is stuck in Android 10. It's likely some apps won't be optimised anymore as we're approaching Android 13 this year.

HuaweiLover, 12 Jun 2021Hi I'm want to ask a question.
Should I buy the mat... moreIf you wanted to inject the GMS, then Mate 30 Pro or P40 Pro. Make sure the OS is EMUI 10. With Mate 40 Pro, there's no proven way to inject the GMS yet. If you don't care about the GMS, then get either the Mater 40 Pro or the P50 Pro Kirin.
Personally, I've used P40, Mate 30, Mate 30 Pro, and Mate 40 Pro. I'm keeping my Mate 30 Pro (with GMS) as there're flexibility of getting the apps from the Huawei App Gallery, Aurora Store, APK Pure and Google Play Store. The EMUI is getting Huawei updates too. All things being equal, I'd get the Mate 40 Pro.

Christian A Saputra , 24 Sep 2021I found out that P50 Pro, doesn't have 5G. I know that... moreI read it somewhere the P50 Pro Kirin version (instead of the SD version) is better than the Mate 40 Pro.

I sold my iPhone 12 and bought this one.
The experience is quite fascinating with having no Google play services with this device it opened a lot of probabilities for me. I did not know that there are much better neo banks that exist which do not rely on Google's framework and there are tons of apps that are alternatives to that of Google's mainstream recommendations. The only downside that I see complication is Wear OS which I was planning to get and no alternatives for now with Huawei on that one.
Nevertheless, it's a good phone (much better than my iPhone 12 in all aspects) that lasts more than a day of usage. Camera is superb except for the video which is a love or hate situation. Design wise, it's a unique one and requires a case of you don't want the camera bump to be scratched.

The camera capabilities are top notch. I was recently at a tourist attraction garden at night, close to pitch black. This phone managed to capture excellent shots without the use of flashlights. I saw others with iPhone and Samsung using flashlights to be able to take a decent shot. Really feel lucky to have this phone.

Hi Huawei Lovers...
Does anyone know how to change from EMUI to HARMONY? Does anyone have experience it before? If so, please let me know in details. Is it better using EMUI 12, or Harmony OS?
Thanks so much.

A CN Phone amateur, 18 Mar 2022Harmony OS will only be used in Chinese HUAWEI Phone,If you... moreMy Mate 40 pro has EMUI 12, it looks and behaves just like Harmony OS, no problem with it atm. I looked it up and it is still based on Android 10 though... That's kind of a bummer, seeing as this year we will see the release of Android 13. But with all tge regular security patches and how it performs, I don't mind the android version. Android since version 10 is already pretty finished, nothing new is actually added now.

Kal, 08 Feb 2022Guys.. i got this phone and if you want google apps, jus he... moreAs for apps, there are tons of alternative apps, which are way better than the original one. one such is Vanced.. it replaces Youtube app, n by far its the best alternative app. as for maps, well, u can use Petal Maps, or you can download Google Maps, but only thing that holds you back is that you cant sign in. As for browser, the built-in browser is perfect, or u can download chrome, but again, no sign in is allowed.
If you really want google apps, then download Gspace, or Dualspace.. these apps works flawlessly. im using gspace and so far, no complaints at all.. perfecto..

Guys.. i got this phone and if you want google apps, jus head down and down Gspace.. or even Dualspace. it will automatically install playstore and u can have a fully functional google apps on ur Mate 40 pro. No issues at all. only thing is that the apps installed from these places will open slightly slower as it will first open gspace, and then the app. As of now, all the apps on my phone (on gspace) works flawlessly..
Also, if you have any apps that require google sign-in, it will not work, as the phone doesn't have GMS, but if you login thru gspace, then viola, works flawlessly. so if you guys are thinking that the apps are keeping you from not buying the phone, think again. u will get fully functional google apps phone with this. Im loving it...

Hello, I thought I should do a personal review of this phone, as I ordered it last week and came 3 days ago. Here are a few of my thoughts:
I had this unit for 3 days now and so far so good, the Google problem doesn't affect me (I use the App Gallery and I downloaded the APKPure app store which has everything I want and brings regular updades), all my necessary apps are on my phone now.
The battery life seems decent, lasts me 1 to 1,5 days, depending on the use (I use my phone with the max resolution and always 90 Hz screen refresh). For example I charged it to 80% yesterday at 22:00 and it's at 57% today at 14:00. It's obviously not a battery champion, but it lasts enough and it charges really fast (~ 40 min to full). My wife has the iPhone 13 pro max, and I wouldn't change this Huawei for that one ever, even though the 13 pro max has incredible battery life, it charges soooo slowly.
Regarding the design: the phone looks and feels INCREDIBLE! I had so many people asking me what phone this is ajd complimented it for how fancy and futuristic it looks (i have the black one and put an orange leather case on it from Amazon, the combination of orange and black is pure awesomeness). Ok, back to the design. Regarding the question of the screen curvature, it has been a pleasure to use with absolutely 0 touch issues. U can literally hold it any way u want and it won't mistouch. There is a slight green tint at the extreme edges where the glass curves (but that is just how physics work, not the displays fault), but I find it adds character and I love to use something that breaks out of the ordinary boring phone designs. I find the colors not as vibrant and saturated as other phones from Samsung or Xiaomi, it tends to look more like the iPhones screen with more natural colors that are easy on the eye. Although when you look at photos or videos they are simply stunning, specially when you tilt it and see the curves
