Okay, this is the term to describe "fake" optical zoom on a smartphone:
"multi-cam zoom"
Meaning: a bunch of separate fixed lenses on a multi-cam phone with varying focal lengths working together to achieve zoom.
Multi-cam zoom, when marketed as "optical zoom," becomes a "marketing BS."

If you deny my comments, you also deny Wikipedia's explanation of zoom lenses.
Also, responding to the topic of fake optical zoom presented as true optical zoom is not worth your time as I added several users to my element blocker. I can't read what you said as they are all redacted, including avatars.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2022So according to some, view from a separate sensor with long... moreNot at all. Presenting a product in an honest way enlightens the readers on what they are getting.
If it has fixed lenses, then it would be better to just say digital or hybrid zoom.

No. It enlightens the consumers about what exactly they are getting—fixed lenses and digital zoom. You just want to "muddy the waters" by presenting marketing terms as technical terms.

We're talking about lenses.
Fixed and zoom.
Fixed lenses are fixed. Can't zoom optically.
Zoom lenses (as seen on Xperia 1 IV's telephoto), can actually perform optical zoom.
Marketing a phone with optical zoom even though it lacks this technology is misleading, scam, and good for profit.
Telling the truth about how true optical zoom works to the public is actually hurting the sales of their products. Do you want to sell more of these? I understand.

Anonymous, 05 Oct 2022So according to some, view from a separate sensor with long... moreThose are separate fixed lenses. Fixed lenses can't zoom optically.
Xperia 1 IV and Galaxy S4 zoom are the only phones, to date, with true optical zooms.
You're forcing the term optical zoom too much on devices with fixed lenses. Are you from Gsmarena or Huawei?

So according to some, view from a separate sensor with longer focal length resulting in same field of view if main sensor was zoomed, is a "fake" optical zoom.
To them, only true optical zoom occurs when focal length at of main sensor was changed.
They're being too naive, stressing too much on semantics resulting into time wasting and nothing fruitful. They're showing total lack of understanding the context.

Gsmarena is wrong as well.
Repeating fake optical zooms throughout the site doesn't turn it into true optical zoom.
