      I also read that from Huawei's website. That's pathetic marketing of the 10x zoom.
      When do fixed lenses have optical zooms? That's hilarious. Maybe "fake optical zoom" is the right term.

          10x comes from Huawei's website itself. Under telephoto image that they've shown on their marketing, it says "10x" and comes with a footnote that reads:

          "Zoom range is the maximum zoom ratio divided by the ultra-wide angle magnification. The focal lengths on HUAWEI Mate 50 are 24 mm (ultra aperture camera)."

          That is 125mm / 13mm = "10x" (Huawei's marketing)

          Did you even read the quoted footnotes I have provided?

          Of course that's a fake optical zoom. Read my previous sources.

            Only two phones I know has TRUE optical zooms: Xperia 1 IV and Galaxy S4 Zoom.

              This is a pointless conversation.

              But here are some facts:

              If you insist that two or more separate fixed lenses has "true" optical zoom, then, that's your choice.

              Whatever language or mental gymnastics you have, the truth about true zoom lenses are already established sine 1902, several decades before smartphone cameras can zoom in or out optically (Samsung S4 Zoom, Xperia 1 IV).

              Fixed vs Zoom:

              "The term prime [or fixed lens] has come to mean the opposite of zoom."  [1]

              "[While] a zoom lens is a mechanical assembly of lens elements for which the focal length can be varied, as opposed to a fixed-focal-length lens." [2]

              Zoom lenses have true optical zoom and "moving optical lenses" in a single lens. [3] Fixed lenses can't zoom optically; only digitally. Go to a camera store and ask them.

                    And again, that's a fake optical zoom. The 125mm lens has a fixed focal length. So that's a 1x telephoto lens that doesn't zoom by itself. Huawei just hides the 10x marketing lingo into the footnotes:

                    "Zoom range is the maximum zoom ratio divided by the ultra-wide angle magnification. The focal lengths on HUAWEI Mate 50 are 24 mm (ultra aperture camera), 13 mm (ultra-wide angle camera), and 125 mm (telephoto camera)."

                    So it translates into marketing:
                    "It has 10x optical zoom!"

                    125mm telephoto / 13mm ultra-wide
                    =10X 🎉🎉🎉

                      This one's a bit more sensible to provide 5x periscope telephoto instead of mere 3.5x on the pro one. But that one's got 64mp, over 5x the resolution of this, allowing some hybrid zoom. let's see which one's better actually.

                            can any one tell me which maximum zoom capability
                            and clarity between p40pro plus and mate50 in both
                            photo and zoom mode as their prices are both close

                                Huawei should have used 16MP sensors for both periscope and ultrawide cameras. It's really enjoyable to take landscape photos at higher resolutions. But this device and the Pro model, I think, are more exciting than iPhone 14 series and Xiaomi's upcoming 12T devices with 2MP+8MP+200MP camera systems.

                                  GSmarena i will wait your verdict about this celphone camera😁 please get a review about it abd prove it to us that this is worth of trying to buy without GSM.
