It seems the Huawei Mate X2 is not coming anytime soon though that isn’t stopping Huawei from continuing to work on the device. The latest evidence comes in the form of a new patent filing with CNIPA (China National Intellectual Property Office) for the Mate X2 alongside clarification on its model number.

The new patent shows us a more refined version of the previously spotted design listing with an inward folding design and decently sized outside display with a punch-hole cutout. The device also comes with five rear cameras housed in a rectangular cutout. The topmost sensor features a rectangular shape which likely indicates a periscope module.

According to the latest rumors, the Mate X2 will feature an 8.03-inch main display with no cutouts and a 4.5-inch external panel. The overall design is quite reminiscent of Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 2 down to the side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

One area where the Mate X2 might have the advantage is in the hinge department as the patent shows it does not have any openings when closed flat. Then again this is just a patent so it could end up being totally different when/if it launches.

In addition, the Mate X2’s TET-AN00 model number and Teton codename were revealed by Chinese tipster DigitalChatStation.
