Maybe if the kirin 9k stock runs out they will price it a bit less since they can buy tons of sd 888.but they will lose profit and gain profit XD.

Exactly, 29 Jul 2021Exactly, who needs the useless black & white camera?The monochrome isn't the regular B&W sensor u think. Monochrome has 3x more light than a regular Bayer sensor and 2.5x more with quad Bayer. Plus it can make contrast and dynamic range outstanding

The reason they go with 3.5x lower focal length, what i get is the longer focal length ex 5x the harder to stabilize image and get good detail , to have better quality like the promotional image they need to reduce down the focal length. If they go with 5x it will be on par quality like the rest flagship , ex mi 11 ultra. Its like tweaking things to get better advantage this is not new to huawei, the quad bayer and monocrohome sensor in p20 pro is one example

The telephoto may have lower focal length but it can head to head with mi 11 ultra let me tell why.
Binning
12 mp 1.6 um 5x
16 mp 1.6 um 3.5x
in here p50 pro have 33% more pixel area that can be cropped, with 4 mp more pixel rawly calculate we get around this
12 mp 1.6um 5x - 50x
12 mp 1.6um 4.8x - 48x
well not lose by much although we have lower focal length.
Now with bayer on we get automatically 2x times from max zoom with cropped pixel in quad bayer format
48 mp at 100x (12mp 5-50 x 2)
64 mp at 70x ( 16mp 3.5-35 x 2)
you can see mi 11 ultra have better zoom? but cropped with 33% / 16 mp / more pixel area and you get this
48 mp at 100x (12mp 5-50 x 2)
64 mp at 96x (12mp 4.8-48 x 2 )
ta da neck to neck, the final quality will be based with algorithm and lens quality considering they have both the 888 , i will def choose huawei with those superior algorithm + AIS pro add on

Glad to see Huawei is back with their flagship,one of the best Android devices you can buy currently.I reckon,European price will be close to €1k(P 50 Pro).
I do wish them all the best with the sales.But,to be honest, I'm not sure how many people in EU(won't comment for the rest of the world) will be prepared to unload €1k for the device that comes without Google services,without 5G access,and,as it seems,without even a charger in s retail box....
