Two issues that I see off the bat. This phone will most definitely not use the Kirin choosers because Huawei is currently unable to make enough of them. The second one is that the phone can't use Leica optics because their 'contract' with Leica has ended.

Camera design be ugly but it will be the king of mobile camera quality I guess.

There are questionable decisions in this phone.

However, one that doesn't bother me is the battery. While small, it's evident that Huawei have confidence in their HarmonyOS battery efficiency. I do as well, especially as Huawei's historically had great battery life with small batteries.

What does bother me is the camera, mainly the main camera and zoom camera. If I am reading this correct, Huawei's sticking to their 1-year old camera, which is not going to be enough to challenge Apple and Samsung unless the software is good enough. And secondly, the zoom camera is a direct offspring to the S20 Ultra's zoom camera. Again, could be bad unless the software is good enough. While the benefits for having the low-zoom-high-resolution zoom camera are nice to have (Good video without need to crop from the main camera, better stabilization) I frankly feel that it is not worth the problems such as rapid video deterioration when zooming past 3.5x and sheer software reliance if you wanted to zoom. But at the same time, I feel that they probably did it for night performance. With a big sensor for zoom means that it will likely become the most powerful zoomed night images.

Knowing that this is the 4G phones confuses me. Will they instead run entirely on Kirin 9000s? They cannot use other chips for their 5G counterparts, which cements the fact that this phone will likely not be for the masses. Sadly, I cannot imagine a price tag lower than 999 or even 1099 euros. I'm not surprised if they charged even more for the Pro+. It will likely be due to the lack of stock of the handset.

That will likely make the technological marvels of this phone even more sad.

Does it mean it won't have 5g as the heading shows 4g?

[deleted post]Who cares as long as photos taken with it look good?

[deleted post]The aesthetics are the only pleasing thing about this phone.

Anonymous, 28 Jul 2021Hm the p50 Pro is worse than the p40 Pro Not necessarily, we should wait till tomorrow before judging.

YUKI93, 28 Jul 2021I thought the chipset would be the 4G version of Snapdragon... moreWell, they said the p50 pro will capture true to life colors so I guess that's why the monochrome sensor is there.

notafanboy, 28 Jul 2021Why did they downgrade the periscope telephoto? From 5x (P4... moreNot necessarily, the new sensor capture much more detail so it will be available to zoom digitally more but yeah, I am disappointed too. We should wait till tomorrow though, those specs might not be right.

Only 3.5 optical zoom ? P40 pro plus have 10 x optical zoom, so p50 pro is a downgrade i keep my p40 instead

With this battery the phone belong to garbage

Why did they downgrade the periscope telephoto? From 5x (P40 Pro) to 3.5x? Kinda disappointing

I thought the chipset would be the 4G version of Snapdragon 888? But that said, I'm really intrigued with the 40MP B/W camera. We really haven't seen a B/W camera sensor on a flagship Huawei phone since the P20 Pro. I wonder why Huawei include it back.

Megapixels don't really matter if the sensors are big.
