Huawei U8100

This little guy is getting some unfair comments here. I've had this phone from Wind Mobile for about 2 months. I wanted a simple, not too large (fits in pocket) Android that wouldn't cost me a mint if I lost it. Current price is $120 cdn, no contract.
The sensors work great, GPS, compass/mag, orientation. In a side-by-side comparison against iPhone4 Google Sky Map was more accurate. WiFi works well. The touchscreen being resistive needs heavier touch than higher cost screens but it is very consistent. This may bother you if you are used to iPhone. I use the Swype keyboard, works well on this phone.
Battery life is acceptable for me, in standby (mobile data disabled, WiFi off) I get about 5 days with a few short phone calls. In continuous use with WiFi on I can basically go all day. I use Advanced Task Killer to clean up excess background apps esp after startup. Also uncheck always-on mobile in options.
I've found workarounds for two problems with this phone:
- Audio quality often reverts to a lo-fi mode unless using the Huawei 4-contact headset, and output level is low. See my workaround here http://www.windmobile.ca/community/ideas/detail/39284/#comment158981
Result is great sound connected to my car audio system.
- WiFi sleep policy setting doesn't work, so WiFi disconnects whenever the screen locks while on batteries (ok on charger). Use free REGPON wifi KeepAlive app to fix.

Well..I bought this phone a few days ago (my first android) and Im still learning how to use it.
I have a two questions..
First of all...is there an actual way in which you can stop the phone from stretching all the images I tried to use as wallpapers? Its really bothersome. I know the phone can support up to 24 screens, but is really that necessary?
Secnd: Can you use the front camera with Skype? Since I started using the phone, I found no way to test that camera.
Thanks to anyone with the time to answer me. :)

I have had it for a month. There is no flash, no. Battery life sucks - compare capacity to some others, most have 1700 or 1800. An app called powersave will help.

I had this for the last 5 months and quiet satisfied. Just get the packet for 1.6mio with 0% interest for 6 months.
The "wifi router" definetly not router, it is one to one sharing (point to point) that only available for max 5 connections.
You have to set always on/not in standby mode, so you have plug the power in.
Normal usage rate (calling+texting) without internet just about 1.5days.
Heavy usage (gps+pushmail+internet+ebuddy+update) only last about 6-8hours.
Touchscreen resistif not quiet good. You'll missed sometime, i brought a ligt touchpad-pen to make easier typing.
Sensor rotate so slow (or actually it is caused by the low processor in use?).
Spare batteries.. and it will be better than carrying bulky-bad batteries thing like Blackberries (especially for internet stuf).
HSDPA-3G supported and fast. Bluetooth OK.
Loud ringer, more softwares in the "markets", help to define more specific usage.
Cons: difficult to find spare batteries, price should be below $100 since nowadays more cheap android come over. Can't be updated to higher android version.
Low processors make it difficult in operational about 3-4tasks in a row

I've had the device for over a month now, and I can safely say it's really good for the price you pay. I wouldn't consider it for someone who regularly uses their cell phone for business purposes, but it's a really good starter phone for those who want to get a sense of what the android OS offers.
The only set backs that I found at first using it are that
1) The battery life is poor, so if you go on long trips, you should definitely pack a charger or an extra battery because it lasts maybe 40 hours on standby.in the first week, my battery barely lasted 10 hours on stand by! But as I charged it and used it more often, I found the battery life gets better. (Odd right?)
2) The Keyboard is very difficult to work with. (I eventually got use to the keyboard after about two weeks, but there are other keyboards available for download so that wasn't such a huge setback)
3) I found it difficult to download Java apps, (Which I later figured out how to, this too, is not that big of a set back as there are many .apk apps available for free download on the android market)
Overall, I really enjoyed this phone. Very good user interface and at a low cost. I found the design of the phone to be sleek, but the curve at the end is kind of strange. I'm considering getting a new color face plate as well, hopefully they offer that.

After using this handset for nearly two months I can safely say that this device is garbage. Although cheap, it is severely underpowered and will leave a sour taste in your mouth as it continuously crashes while you attempt to send important text messages. The touch screen is unresponsive, and the internal hardware leaves much to be desired. I'd recommend shilling out a bit more money for something with more power and better quality parts.

The battery on this phone can only last about 10 hrs on a full charge. Only using about 30 minutes of calls and 1 minute of data. This is with bt, wifi turned off, screen brightness on minimum. Anyone suggest where I can get a better battery. Huawei does not manufacture a higher end battery for this phone.
