IDC: Tablet market rebounds, Apple leads the way

The worldwide tablet shipments in the April-June period totaled 34.4 million shipments which represents a 22.1% annual growth. The shipment levels are comparable to pre-pandemic values – a clear sign that tablet demand has now successfully rebounded.

Apple delivered 12.3 million iPads in Q2, strengthening its market share to 35.8%. The introduction of the new 11” and 13” iPad Air and iPad Pro models helped Cupertino jump in market share around the globe. China was the only outlier as stiff coemption from local brands Huawei and Xiaomi served as detriment to Apple.

Samsung came in second place with 6.9 million shipments for the period, growing to a 20.1% market share. Lenovo came in third place with 2.5 million shipments and a 7.3% market share. Huawei shipped 2.3 million tablets and earned a 6.8% market share fueled by strong demand for its recent MatePad series devices.

Xiaomi was the fifth leading vendor with its 2 million shipments and 5.8% market share. It boasted the highest YoY growth at 94.7% with significant gains across several European markets.
