Infinix Note 40 Pro+ review

GSMArena Team, 14 June 2024.

Large 6.78-inch 120Hz OLED panel

One of the Note 40 Pro+'s centerpiece features is the big 6.78-inch OLED panel. It offers a standard 1,080 x 2,436px resolution and ticks at up to 120Hz. The panel also supports 10-bit color depth.

And although Infinix doesn't mention anything about HDR video, we found that the display supports HDR content in the YouTube app. However, HDR in the Netflix app, for example, isn't supported, but it does have the appropriate Widevine L1 security certificate for high-quality playback in Full HD resolution.

In our brightness test, the device highly. In manual mode, we got 607 nits, while in auto, the device boosted up to 1,130 nits. That's enough to compete with its direct rivals, and it's enough to provide a comfortable experience outside, even on a bright sunny day.

Refresh rate

The refresh rate control is pretty simple. The software offers three modes - 60Hz, 120Hz and Auto-switch. The latter is the default option and lowers the refresh rate to 60Hz when leaving the screen idle or watching videos. For the rest of the menus and all the apps we tried, the system favors 120Hz. It's a simple yet effective implementation.

Battery life

The device relies on a below-average 4,600 mAh unit, but it achieved a rather respectable Active Use Score of 12:23h. It's not record-breaking by any means, but it's just about average for the price bracket and still quite dependable.

There are a few standout alternatives, like the Samsung Galaxy A55 and the Nothing Phone (2a), but for the most part, the Note 40 Pro+ is competitive enough.

Looking closely at the results, we see the device excelling in the 4G talk time and offering good web browsing and video playback runtimes. The gaming score is surprisingly low, though.

Charging speed

As expected, the charging solution, which Infinix calls All-round FastCharge2.0, is quite speedy as long as you select the fastest possible charging mode in the phone.

Infinix Note 40 Pro+ review

Iin our testing, the Infinix Note 40 Pro+ flew right past its rivals and completed a full charging cycle in merely 27 minutes, while a 15-minute charge gives you 61% of the battery charge back. This is considerably faster than most, if not all, smartphones in the price bracket.

The handset also supports wireless charging and can go up to 20W using Infinix' MagPad - a wireless charging pad that's quite similar to Apple's MagSafe charger, but to make use of the magnetic functionality, you have to use the provided protective case that snaps on the phone.

Speakers

The Note 40 Pro+ comes with a set of hybrid stereo speakers - one full-fledged speaker at the bottom and one that also serves as an earpiece. They are surprisingly balanced, although the bottom one is slightly louder.

Speaking of loudness, we've seen better. The handset got -26.5 LUFS, which is a "Good" score, but drags behind the competition. Sound quality isn't all that impressive either. It's somewhat flat and rings at a higher volume.

Use the Playback controls to listen to the phone sample recordings (best use headphones). We measure the average loudness of the speakers in LUFS. A lower absolute value means a louder sound. A look at the frequency response chart will tell you how far off the ideal "0db" flat line is the reproduction of the bass, treble, and mid frequencies. You can add more phones to compare how they differ. The scores and ratings are not comparable with our older loudspeaker test. Learn more about how we test here.
