iPhone 15 series shatters sales records in China

Despite the homegrown competition in China, Apple's new iPhone 15 series managed to outpace the iPhone 14 family from last year. According to one of the country's biggest online retailers, JD.com, which has partnered with more than 4,000 Apple resellers, the first two hours of the launch saw a 253% uptick compared to last year.

This signals a huge interest in the new iPhones and to everyone's surprise, orders from customers in lower-tier cities jumped six times. Despite the higher price tag, iPhone adoption seems to be spreading outside of major Chinese cities.

According to market analysts, the average selling price of smartphones in the country exceeds $450 and will likely keep rising in the following quarters. So the sudden uptick in iPhone sales aligns with Chinese market trends to some extent.
