iPhone 8 will have wireless charging, new report claims

Vlad, 23 November 2016

The speculator-in-chief for all things Apple-related, Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities, is at it again. He now claims all 2017 iPhone 8 models will come with wireless charging support built-in. However, the cheapest iPhones may not ship with a wireless charger in the box, such a bundle being reserved for the higher-end SKUs.

The iPhone 8 line will come with a glass back, something which should enable fast wireless charging with minimum disruption from frequency interference. Apple is apparently expected to "aggressively" adopt wireless charging "through 2018".

Concept image not depicting an actual iPhone

Previously, the KGI analyst has said that we should expect three iPhone 8 models next year, two of which should be the anticipated successors for the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. The third variant will also be the most expensive, as this is the one that will feature a dual-curved AMOLED touchscreen - around 5.8" in size reportedly.

Pegatron is said to be the sole supplier for the wireless charger for the future iPhones, as Foxconn is busy making sure it can produce the AMOLED iPhone without issues. As always, take this rumor with a hefty dose of salt, especially since we're almost a year away from the unveiling of these handsets.
