Jolla smartphone finally arrives in India, costs $270

23 September, 2014

The Jolla smartphone is finally available for purchase in India. The phone is currently exclusively available on Snapdeal, but we expect in the coming days to see a wider release on more retailers. The first 90 buyers of the Jolla smartphone will receive a complementary Other Half back cover in Poppy Red, Keira Black and Aloe colors.

The phone retails for $270 (INR 16,499) and delivers a 4.5" qHD display with Gorilla Glass 2 protection, 1.4GHz dual-core Krait CPU on the Snapdragon 400 chipset and 1GB of RAM. At the back, there's a 2,100mAh removable battery and an 8MP camera with LEd flash.

The big story for the Jolla is its Sailfish OS, done by former Nokia engineers. We did a preview of the phone a while back and went into details of the Sailfish OS performance and cool gesture-based interface.

While the phone was set to launch in August, it appears Jolla faced some issues, which delayed the arrival in the subcontinent. The phone hit Europe nearly a year ago with a price tag of €399, and although it got a few price cuts since, it's still more expensive than it is in India.
