Leaked nubia Z30 render shows an under display selfie camera, quad cam with periscope

nubia’s Weibo account ran a poll among fans asking what would be the most-valued features of the upcoming nubia Z-series flagship. “Appearance” won the poll with “photography” a close second – it may or may not be a coincidence that those two are combined in the latest leak.

It allegedly shows a render of the nubia Z30, which has an under-display selfie camera. The ZTE Axon 20 series from last year were the first phones to bring such a camera to market, but the Axon 30 series has abandoned it.

Alleged nubia Z30 render: note the absence of a visible selfie camera

Maybe that is transferring over to the nubia line – it’s hard to beat the looks of an under display camera. That display is showing some curved sides too, which are matched by the curved sides of the back.

On the back is a quad camera with the “100x hybrid zoom” label. Below that are the focal lengths – 16 mm for the ultra wide camera and 135 mm for the telephoto (5x magnification over the main camera). That is presumably a periscope, even though it is not drawn as such in the render.

nubia Z20's disappearing rear screen not only looked cool, but was practical too

Will the nubia Z30 have a secondary display on its back, just like its predecessor did? It’s possible, but it’s not seen in the render and the folks on Weibo are just speculating for now. The Z20 had a fairly large 5.1” AMOLED on its back (720 x 1,520 px), which could almost disappear when turned off (putting wallpapers on the back was cool, main camera selfies were even cooler).

nubia confirmed that the next Z-flagship will be powered by the Snapdragon 888 way back in December

The nubia Z30 will be powered by a Snapdragon 888 chipset, this was confirmed almost as soon as the chipset itself was announced. But that was months ago and we still don’t know when the phone will be unveiled.

That's only because the smartphone market is poorly done to begin with. In every other market, including some, where things are harder, costlier and take more time and require more R&D to make, like automobile, we have a great diversity. ...

It's not as simple as that. Manufacturers will base their phones on the consensus because the more people it appeals to, the more people who will buy and that's the bottom line. I think that I said this before to yourself but enough people ...
