Lei Jun shares first photo from Xiaomi 15 Ultra's 200MP periscope

Xiaomi is preparing to launch a halo car, the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra, at the end of this month. This launch will likely coincide with the arrival of an Ultra of a very different nature – the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. The camera-focused flagship will probably be unveiled in China first, then a couple of days later, it and the Xiaomi 15 will roll out to markets around the world.

Now, the company still hasn’t set an official time frame for the launch, but it did confirm that an Ultra model is coming later this month. And it has started sharing teasers for the phone – like this photo of CEO Lei Jun, which was taken by a 100mm camera with an f/2.6 lens.

The stats in the image don’t mention the resolution and the image itself has been shot in 12MP mode, but this appears to be a shot from the rumored 200MP periscope camera, which will combine a Samsung HP9 sensor with a 4.3x lens. 4.3x sounds about right for a 100mm focal length.

The other cameras that the Xiaomi 15 Ultra is rumored to have include a 50MP main (1” Sony Lytia 900 sensor), 50MP 3x telephoto (IMX858) and a 50MP ultra-wide (Samsung JN5). Those match up with three of the cameras on the Xiaomi 14 Ultra (with some substitutions), but it’s the 200MP periscope that’s the big upgrade this year – it replaces a 50MP 5x periscope (IMX858 sensor) on the 2024 flagship.

Lei Jun posted on Weibo, speaking about the SU7 (which has now exceeded 160,000 units shipped), the upcoming SU7 Ultra and the Xiaomi 15 Ultra. “Xiaomi performed very well, with its market share ranking second in the Chinese market, and its sales increased by more than 40% month-on-month, ranking first in growth rate,” wrote the CEO. “This Xiaomi flagship phone, which is positioned as the highest-end, has made a huge breakthrough, especially in night scenes. I am very confident in its performance.”
