Lenovo Tab M9 unveiled: $140 tablet with 9" screen, optional 4G
Lenovo unveiled a kid-friendly tablet that slots between the Tab M8 and Tab M10. It is the Lenovo Tab M9 and – you guessed it! – it has a 9” display. This tablet will be on the floor at CES 2023, but it is in no rush to go to market as it will launch in Q2 (April-July). The base model will start at $140.
The tablet has a 9” LCD display, a pretty basic panel with 1,340 x 800px resolution (15:9). It offers up to 400 nits of brightness and 60% coverage of the NTSC color space. There is a 2MP camera on the front for video (and face unlock, there is no fingerprint reader), plus an 8MP camera on the back.
The Tab M9 is certified to play HD content from Netflix and its 5,100mAh battery promises to last up to 13 hours while streaming video. The binging experience is further enhanced by the dual speakers with Dolby Atmos. Plugging headphones into the 3.5mm jack is also an option.
The tabled is capable of some light gaming too with a Helio G80 chipset (2x Cortex-A75 @ 2.0GHz + 6x A55 @ 1.8GHz, plus a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU). The base model is equipped with 3GB of RAM and 32GB storage, but there are 4/64GB and 4/128GB options too. There is also a microSD slot for up to 2TB of extra storage if you prefer local content over streaming.
The base model features Wi-Fi 5 (ac) and Bluetooth 5.1, GPS too. However, there will also be a 4G version available for connectivity on the go. The USB-C port is wired only for 2.0 speeds and the bundled charger is fairly slow, 10W (though the tablet’s battery is smartphone-sized).
Lenovo will offer a basic silicone protective case as well as a folio case with a built-in kickstand. The Tab M9 comes with Android 12 out of the box as well as several pre-installed apps: Google Kids Space, YouTube Kids, Netflix and others, which should give you an idea who this tablet is intended for.
Lenovo has much more to show at CES, including a premium Tab Extreme slate and an E-Ink tablet. CES 2023 starts on January 5.
