The VU is almost a smart phone in most respects.
I have seen a lot of questions here and can answer most.
1 - The scheduling is great. You can synch the phone with a computer. And you can with a third party app synch to outlook.
2 - You can run most Java applications on the phone BUT you have to bypass the JAVA secuirity first. To do this there is a very actiove community at www.lg-vu.com.
3 - GMAIL client is no problem. If you use Rogers (like me) you can use Rogers Moblie Mail and get push email for $5 a month with some limitations.
4 - The touch screen is a pain in the ass as far as I am concerned. The buttons are too small and the system takes a lot of getting used to.
5 - You have a full HTML browser and there is little any carrier can do top charge you extra for surfing the web. You can get to any site. Just dont download anything to avoide extra charges.
6 - The browser is weak though. I often have trouble logging into Facebook or Yahoo!. Rogers suspects that it is my phone but I am still unsure. One thing I can say, using 3G is very fast for browsing on the Rogers Network. You get DSL speeds. No joke!
7 - You can use an MP3 as a ringtone but it has to be less than 300Kb.
8 - The user interface is horrid. The engineer should be shot.
9 - Reception and call clarity are amazing. Much better than any other phone I have ever tried.
Bottom line - The LG VU is QUIRKY and you will need to hack the phone (not hard to do...) in order to get the full utility from it. HOWEVER with the option of push mail, unlimited browsing for $7/month you cannot beat it - for $37/month I have most of the power of a Blackberry for a fraction of the costs.

I found that my internet would never work although i changed all network settings to the correct network i am using. However I was able to connect to the internet by accessing it through the icon (2 blue boxes) at the top right corner.

OS/ interface is abominable.

Anonymous, 20 Nov 2008Type in on the dialpad 277634#*# then goto to modem setting... moreThanks, that was dead easy to disable the 3G on the LG VU.
Unlock codes for LG VU are readily available on ebay, and are also a snap to do urself using ur phone's IMEI code.
Get urselves a mirror screen protector and a crystal case for a real cool look for this excellent phone.

got this phone today from rogers canada. it wasn't necessarily my first choice - but it was one of the cheapest - only 29$ with mail in rebate.
i have no opinion on how good or bad it is - i'm waiting til the battery is fully charged to play with it.
my only comment for now is for those that want to get this phone: look for a good deal - my monthly plan is less than 30$ as well.
will be back soon to post my review.
