LG Dare snatches CES award, our jaws drop

21 Nov, 2008

LG have a reason to feast, as they snatched the award in the Wireless Handsets category at this year's CES Innovations Awards. The lucky winner is the CDMA-enabled Verizon-exclusive LG VX9700 Dare, which will be featured in a special display for the time of the show in January next year. Samsung also have reasons to cheer for having the largest number of handsets among the honorable mentions and getting the Wireless Handset accessories award for their MBP200 Pico Projector.

The highlight of the LG Dare include a 3" TFT touchscreen display with tactile feedback and handwriting recognition, a 3.2 MP AF camera with Schneider-Kreuznach lens, full HTML browser, Bluetooth with A2DP and a microSD card slot.

The other two LG phones among the honorees of the CES wireless handset awards are the TV-enabled LG CB630 Invision and LG CU920 Vu.

Samsung got as many as 5 of their phones among the runners-up. Those include Access and Epix as well as the CDMA-enabled Highnote, Instinct, and Z400.

The other recognized phones are Motorola ZN4 Krave, BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 and BlackBerry Bold 9000

The CES innovation awards are supposed to reflect the most innovative consumer electronics products in the industry's hottest product categories. While we would by no means go as far as to say that LG do not deserve such an award we are quite convinced that the LG Dare isn’t the handset that should be excelled. It seems that for some reason the CES committee has only considered carrier-exclusive handsets. That also explains why there aren't any Sony Ericsson or Nokia handsets among the winners.

what a phony committee, if only carrier exclusive headsets are considered. That whole carrier exclusive stuff smells of racket to boot! Good thing there's still a few countries that consider methods like Apple's illegal.
