The colours are all sharp and appears much more saturated. Visibility under the sunlight is also satisfactory for a non reflective TFT dispaly. The display brightness is superb when compared to even phones with 16M colour displays. The 262k colour feels a bit more colourful thanks to the brighter display. If the display just had a bit more resolution, then it would definitely beat all others in this segment.

I have found out that GM200 records FM using FHG (Guess) encoder @ 128kbps CBR. So naturally, the decoder must also be using Fraunhofer mp3 codec. I always thought that LAME mp3 encoder is superior to FHG and as it is open source, the most popular too. But after doing a bit of research on the net, I found out that the newest lineup of FHG codecs are superior to the LAME mp3 codec. It was confirmed by many audiophiles in individual blind listening tests. Fraunhofer is also the first to develop the mp3 surround and mp3HD. But I don't actually know if that would make any difference as most of my mp3 collection is encoded using LAME encoder.

I also tried couple of codes found on the internet and all of them were not working however I have seen the service center guy using some code and he showed me some version which ends with J which is my mobiles current firmware.the guys is not telling me the code as it some confidential matter ti seems

The best feature from gm200 is the fm rec. With rate 128kbps.. Then sound n camera,multitasking nice,but it think worst thing is memory..only 2gg,not good for music phone. Oh..but totaly i still love this phone

Thats why i change my headset.

and there is some better , you can record from any station of radio fm and save in your microSd and the record is very good , this model`s sound is like the sony ericsson w600 , do you remember it ? good for LG

And about the firmware, i've got a bunch of codes for LG but nothing seems to work on this phone. maybe it's got a new line up of codes.
my last firmware update was on 9th nov.

I guess i did the firmware update 4th nov(i don't remeber exact date) its a relief that they are releasing fix every week.changes made on the new fix are mp3 player resume option only when u get any call but stops if u access java apps or games , they have pre-installed opera mini 4 as thrd party browser were not working .. rest all the same
Nevin let me know the code to find the firmware version.So when did u updtate the firmware .. any changes

I just hated the way this forum was flooded by negative comments about this phone before I came here. There was even a comment saying that only beggars would buy this phone. Whoever said that must be regretting now. For this price tag, I still think this is a good music phone with all the essentials and nothing fancy. it is the perfect phone for an average joe like me and the practicality of this phone surpasses anything in this price range.

you see i'm an optimist and even when everyone wrote trash about this phone, i was quite sure that this phone has got the muscle. All it needed was a good update. So far so good for me. As this phone is a relatively new lineup, development is still going on and we can expect a lot of things with each update. This update has definitely brought this phone closer to 5130 in terms of audio quality. the hardware part is quite ok as it has been jointly developed by LG and Dolby under the specs prescribed by the world leader in acoustic engineering. If only I could find a way to contact the developers and tell them what all features I want. That would have been great.

After warrenty, since firmware updates are chargeable, it does'n matter at all if you do it in a service center or by yourself.

Stranger, 11 Nov 2009i got one mp4 movie of 400 mb .. But its not working ..... ... moreI think it just depends on the settings you use to convert the video. The recommended settings is 176x144 or 320x240 resolution @ 25 fps (gives smoother playback) encoded with mpeg4 codec or xvid codec. data rate 200-400 but 300kbps gives optimal quality with smaller file sizes and smooth playback. Audio can have 64, 80 or 96kbps data rate (recommended is 80kbps @ 44100hz sample rate). With these settings, you get quality videos with great audio quality and can be played back without any trouble. For movies, it is better to split the file into 10 or 20 minute sections so that it is easy to resume playback without having to FF the whole thing from the beginning.

So i think its a blessing that GM 200's - worst "LOOK and FEEL" rather than a curse.
