hi i've got this phone in silver its real good it has got everything iever wanted but the bad thing is that you miss out on some apps in the android market 2.1 eclair but you'll be lucky because they have made an update click here to see it ( if it is not clickable copy and paste it ):Please click here to upgrade http://www.lg.com/uk/android/index.jsp

sasha, 08 Jan 2011because is locked you need to unlock for all sim networks ;)It is open to all networks as sold by carphone warehouse uk.
Im now getting network problems having upgraded to android 2.1

I love this phone! I have it for almost 3 months now. Upgraded it to Cyanogenmod 6.1.1 recently. With Android 2.2 is way better, faster and more responsive than before. The GPS accuracy is also improved - I get a GPS lock in just 20 seconds! I also love the apps2sd feature on Android 2.2.

i have purchage GT540 optimus handset...on the faith becouse its product of LG.it will b good but i was complitly wrong. many problem in this hand set like 1 vidio calling is not 2 application is very few 3 battery back is third class 4 many unusual icons which comlitly useless 5 service centre is very few...and so on

I had just bought this during Christmas...
It's gonna be a wordy post... be prepared.
By the way, I have upgraded to Optimus from my super old Sony Ericsson W810i. :)

This phone is great.
-Not much lags (except when playing some games like Angry Bird. It gets a little(minor) laggy at some maps but it's alright. It will get back on its track after a few seconds.) The scrolling of menu is smooth... (not sure if this applies to all touchscreen phones...)
Well, almost everything about Optimus is good.
Sensitivity is great. Just that after pasting screen protector over it, you might have to use a bit more force. Don't worry, you will get used to it.
When I bought the phone, it's already in Android 2.1.
It comes with OI file manager, Taskiller and some other apps (like Cardio Trainer, Shop Savy...which can also be found in the Android market )
I think it's nice of them to put OI file manager in because it can help you to install apps in the SD card instead of the phone's memory.
[I'm not sure if it's the LG who added the apps in or what, but it's really nice to have them installed in your new phone.]
As for the camera, it's just average as some had mentioned. If I would to compare, SE w810i 's camera is way way way much better... The quality and the sharpness of the photo taken by w810i is better...
No light/flash?/torchlight?? for the camera.
Overall, Camera: Average.
How about music? As for playing music out loud, I don't find it loud enough. Comparing to w810i, (I know it's a "music" phone but it's been made for-who-knows-how-long ago, so I think it's okay to compare an old phone with a new phone yeah.) I'll need to adjust the volume to about 3/4 to feel that it's loud. (And no, my ears are working fine. ^^;)
LG- 3/4 = Loud
SE- 1/2 = Loud
Then again, for those music lovers, you may want to use headphones... It's better...
Market- It's a pity that I couldn't manage to install Apps using Wifi. The problem doesn't lie in LG but in Google. It seems that it's some kind of a bug... :l
Another way to download apps to your phone is to download them to your PC and transfer them to your phone. :) Open them in your OI file manager and you'll have your app installed.
Surfing net: It loads pretty fast though it lacks of multi touch. Then again, I'm still a newbie to this so I guess I don't need it for now. :)
Battery Life: Great. It can last me for quite a few days... it depends on how you use it.
Great phone at a low price.
