Root your device guys if lollipop updates ruins your nexus 5. Its not the rom that cause the problem, just that stock kernel need some modifications. Franco kernel solved all my problems. Overheating can be solved by undervolts and custom governor setting. Its can lower your cpu frequency and volt loads to prevent overheating. Its run more than it needs. You will not loose performance if you lowering it to the most perfect demand settings. Use management apps to assign a different settings for a different apps such as intensive graphic games that required a higher cpu/gpu frequency to operate smoothly. Speaker, headset, earpiece volumes/display minimum backlight/color settings/thermal threshold/hotplug control/etc,all of these can be tweaks. Your nexus will never let you down with this franco kernel.

To get a MAXIMUM screen on time on your nexus 5 2300mAh battery that runnings on android 5.0 lollipop,1st steps you can do is to get your device ROOTED and install a CUSTOM RECOVERY. Then, find yourself a CUSTOM KERNEL that compatible with nexus 5 (im using FRANCO kernel). Custom kernel is a MUST if you want to TWEAKS your device SoC. Many tweaks you can applied such as,UNDERVOLTS. U may undervolts by referring on YOUR OWN device PVS tables. Im on PVS3 and managed to undervolts -75mv for each cpu frequencies. 2nd is cpu FREQUENCIES CLOCKING and GOVERNOR tweaks. For me i just tweaks my cpu governor and THERMAL THRESHOLD. Governor and undervolts tweak lets your device running on lowest cpu frequency with a minimum volts input. You may also underclocked your GPU settings if you not playing any high fps/3d games. The LAST and the MOST IMPORTANT things to do is to get rid all the useless GOOGLE SERVICES wakelock!!! U can do so by install a DISABLE SERVICES apps on playstore to manage all the google services. GREENIFIES all your social apps using GREENIFY apps also can prevent a huge google service wakelock. MAPS/GOOGLE+ etc,is also a culprit. I always disable AUTO SYNC & LOCATIONS if not in used. Makes sure you already perform a full NANDROID BACKUP before start disable any google services, because if you wrongly disable services your device may get into a serious bootloop. Prepare for the worse. Trust me,the BIGGEST BATTERY HOG is google services wakelock. Your device cant even enter a deep sleep with all this shit running in background. Install a WAKELOCK DETECTOR apps to monitor your wakelock. After all of this,i managed to reached about 5 hours screen on time in a single full charged with 4g or wifi enable!!! Just google for franco kernel and google services wakelock to get more info. I recommends franco kernel if u wanna try a custom kernel. So many tweaks you can applied if you using its own kernel management apps although you still running on original lollipop roms (LRX210) like i am right now. Its worthy.....

it gets a bit of a heat wile using some huge apps, but its not a big deal compared to most of the other phones which gives a lot of heat..

No over heating issues unless you play games etc while charging - which isn't recommended on any phone. Battery charging problem I've had is getting better now I'm doing less gaming on the phone. Standby time is OK and excellent for phone calls. Android 5.1 will probably be a lot better than 5.0 - I remember how poor ics was and how much better jellybean was. For constant gaming I would say the absolute maximum the battery will last is 5 hours. Heavy graphics games like asphalt 8 tend to drain battery in about 3 hours on half battery. Apart from camera bug which drains battery, there are no major bugs. I can't recommend this phone if you want to play games constantly - battery size just isn't big enough but for an hour or two of gaming it's fine.
