LG teases the V30’s 6-inch OLED display

Enrique, 03 August 2017

LG has put out a press release from its home country of South Korea where it outlines a few of the features we can expect from the company’s upcoming flagship smartphone: The LG V30.

All LG had to show for the display is the following image of the bottom of the front. Here we can see the curved edges and bezel size of the LG V30. That’s right, the LG V30 will have dual edges like the Galaxy S8 or the upcoming Note8.

First off, the LG V30 will sport P-OLED display panel, which means the base for the OLED panel is a plastic substrate rather than fragile glass. This ensures the display won’t crack under the slab of Gorilla Glass 5 protecting the screen. The P-OLED technology also gives LG the ability to curve the edges of the display.

Next, the V30 will have LG’s FullVision 2:1 display with a 20% smaller bezel on the top and a 50% smaller bezel on the bottom. In addition, the LG logo has been moved from under the display to the back of the phone. We are also going to see the same QHD+ (1440 x 2880 px) resolution that was on the LG G6.

If you like watching videos and movies on a handset, you’ll be happy to know that the V30 will support HDR10 playback for content with a much higher contrasts, better framerates, and wide color gamut.

The LG V30 will be announced on the last day of August right before IFA starts in Berlin. It’ll pack the latest Snapdragon 835, 4GB of RAM, and a dual-camera setup with one ultra-wide lens and another normal one. Rumors have claimed the V30 could have the widest aperture on a smartphone camera at f/1.6, though, we’ll just have to wait and see about that.
