KondriX, 18 Mar 2021Hi everyone! What variant of the V20 is the easiest to mod/... moreAny model that's on Android 7 and hasn't been updated to the December 2017 security patch is OK since vulnerabilities necessary to carry out the rooting and bootloader unlocking have not been patched yet.

Here I go again.... Still running this supposedly outdated OS... Almost 5 years later. What got so much Better about This phone after the update? Just curious. I have absolutely no issues with Nougat. None. Only the service provider limits this phone...Guess I'm still not willing to risk losing what I have. It's happened before. This phone was designed and released with it in mind almost exclusively right?

YUKI93, 12 Mar 2021It's hard to believe that this is the first ever smart... moreIt's also the only flagship phone that got stuck on EXACTLY the SAME android software version - Android 7.0 Nougat from year of release in 2016 to almost 5 years now. A few variants got upgraded to Android 8.0 Oreo, but many never got even a SINGLE android software version upgrade. LG is paying for it dearly with the death of its mobile phone business after previous users started staying away from the brand due to horrible software update support and poor aftersales service support.

Anonymous, 11 Mar 2021Mine, which I really love, just began to "die". ... moreI'm 100% sure it's the battery. Get a third party extended battery, 6400mAh or higher. Don't buy or use those counterfeit LG branded batteries sold online looking like the real thing but are 100% fake.
Boot sequence is battery intensive. Old, worn out batteries and fake batteries cannot provide the necessary power upon boot up and so shutdown the phone before boot completion and the phone attempts to reboot after shutdown causing a defective/poor battery induced bootloop.

It's hard to believe that this is the first ever smartphone to be shipped with Android 7.0 Nougat in the box. I do hope that LG can reshift their focus on fast software updates as I do root for LG phones for having an exceptionally good value for money.

Mine, which I really love, just began to "die". It will only work now when connected to a charger , even though the battery shows 100% . This is a spare battery I have, never used before. Another battery, ie the one I ran during the past few years also shows 100%, but the phone still shuts off after a few seconds after turning on. Is that fixable or does that mean my phone is succumbing to planned obsolescense?

Rimac , 07 Mar 2021Mine will be four years old in May and I have another one p... moreYes, it's a great phone. Some Samsung flagship users back then even made fun of it in 2017 saying it won't be relevant or alive anymore in 2021. Guess what? It's still alive and still a very capable phone even in 2021 while those 2017 Samsung flagships have long been probably in the landfills by now while this 2016 phone is still very much alive and capable.

It's why I stopped updating my OS years ago. Every update removes control of your device. It's also why they stopped the removable battery scenario. Blaming it on IP68 ratings and such. LG seems to be following in the footsteps of HTC, which ironically is where I was before they tapped out. At the time LG was a very similar set up. That's why I chose them. They kept it simple, had themes available just like HTC and one hell of a DAC. In fact the only thing I didn't like was their choices of ring tones, so my V20 is equipped with all my HTC ringers and the huge flip clock I had gotten use to Lol. It IS a WAY better phone though. I'm sad to see that LG is heading in that same direction, but as long as 3g and 4g still exists, I'll be running this awesome specimen of a smart device. (On Nougat of course). Cheers to all.

All Android versions since 9 are horrible. Android 9 removed the call recording feature, and now Android 11 is the worst. Android 11 removed the freedom of file system by restricting it with Scoped Storage crap. People should boycott Android 9+, but especially Android 11+.

I think that the updating policies in phones and other products are a metaphor of societies that only value the 'continuous' last.

If LG does manage to sell their smartphone business, I hope they make their final phones with removable batteries with an IP67 at minimum. That would kick tail in my book.

This particular phone never needed an OS update. Still running circles around many way over priced phones today 5 years later with a 5 year old OS. The only things holding the V20 back now are maybe the cameras which work fine for me, the absence of stereo speakers, and the of course the service provider. That's about it.
