So it's looking like one of three options is going happen. One, find somebody that knows what they're doing to root and install a custom ROM that activates the VoLTE if that's even possible. Two, buy a new H918 variant in hopes that TMobile didn't drop the ball like sprint did. Have to go to the store and talk to a tech About that... Or three, get a V50 or a V60. Still researching the best option with those. One has the good screen and finger print scanner, one has the good speakers and battery so far.. Neither are anything close too a V20... Five and a half months to go now.

Emmanuel Ndamati, 22 Jun 2021Hello, please point me in the right direction of where you... moreSomething to consider. Make sure VoLTE is onboard otherwise when 3G disappears in the near future phone calls will only run through VoLTE and some sort of 5G set up. Not looking forward to this so far. Any input on the VoLTE vs V20 is extremly welcome at the moment. Best Regards.

Emmanuel Ndamati, 22 Jun 2021Hello, please point me in the right direction of where you... moreBought mine years ago. Not sure H990DS is still as available online as it was several years ago. It's one of the more difficult to find V20 variants. Try eBay, or Amazon or other online shopping sites.

NB: I would prefer a grade A - B used unit if available. A new one wouldn't be a bad idea too,
depending on the price range.
Thank you

The V20 has been the best phone I have ever had and with all the features it would be hard to give up. I have 3 of them, one is the tester, another is the beta, and the last is mainstay.

It's almost as though We can feel it coming. Received my V20's official 6 month death notice by text yesterday from T-Mobile, who has taken over Sprint PCS. They said that after January 2022 there will no longer be 3G service and that I will need to change devices.
Now I've read a few things online about some V20 variants may have VoLTE. The H918 T-Mobile version may be an option, I'll have to look more into it. Also I've seen Nougat 7.1.2 version may work. I have about six months to come up with something. Cheers!

Rimac , 16 Jun 2021I've an unit H990N and another H990DS, both updated on... moreAll V20 models are capable of VoLTE given the hardware. The problem lies in the software support and the actual VoLTE rollout/implementation of your network service provider.

You need to have VoLTE enabled on your V20 if 3G gets phased out or you can't send or receive any more voice calls from your network service provider. You can still do VoIP calls though through whatsapp, FB messenger, skype, Google duo, etc. if that happens but it will be difficult to have successful connection unless both outgoing and receiving party are online at the time of call.

Tha... morefrom what i've read 4g would be there for a very long time, at least another 8-10 years because it's still usable and practical at least compare to 5g and 3g at the moment, 4g still basically applicable and acceptable for normal usage, especially with IoT smart devices. but can't say the same thing with 3g, since they need to allocated resources toward 5g and few of modern western countries already stop their 3g networks

Rimac , 12 Jun 2021Reading the FRILL's post few days ago and remembering ... moreLet's hope that they don't abandon 3G and 4G. That will be the only instance that would warrant a new device for my disappointment. Right now I have Sprint service, but they have joined with T-Mobile. So far all is well, but T-Mobile has been rolling out new sim cards for their Sprint customers. Sprint of course uses a system called CDMA like Verizon but they are not compatible. T-Mobile uses GSM. Another advantage is that my V20 also employs a GSM antenna. Should I be forced to change networks due to obsolescence, hopefully everything will work as well as now. I've never used GSM as I have been a sprint customer for the past twenty three years.

Reading the FRILL's post few days ago and remembering that my 10.500 mAh PERFINE was resting in a desk, today I fit it in the V20.
Of course I feel that it is a bulky size, but no less true that it is one of our advantages in the V20 versatility.
I'm an old man and I hope that the V20 be my last phone.
I hope to get it, by having a second unit.
