MediaTek to unveil a new affordable 5G chipset next week

MediaTek has sent out invites for a May 7 event that will bring a new 5G chipset into the world. And since the tagline is “5G all-inclusive”, this will likely be a mid-range offering.

The company already has the Dimensity 800 in the mid-range 5G segment as well as the Dimensity 1000 and 1000L for the more premium phones. So, what could it be?

Leakster Digital Chat Station mentions an MT6853 chip aimed at the entry-level segment. The marketing name of this chip is unknown, but the Dimensity 800 is the MT6873V. Allegedly, work on the Dimensity 2000 is progressing according to plan as well.

A Redmi K30i aims to bring the cost of 5G down to $250 and may be powered by the Dimensity 800. The Oppo A92s is also expected to use the 800 chip. Unless MediaTek unveils something more suitable next week, of course.

MediaTek is on fire. I am sure it must be planning to bring a 5G chipset in the budget segment and this could be a great idea.
