MediaTek is on fire. I am sure it must be planning to bring a 5G chipset in the budget segment and this could be a great idea.

Maiku, 29 Apr 2020Wow why all this companies are rushing to have 5G in everyt... moreIt's a new technology and every company rushes to release 5G products because, if a consumer wants a 5G phone and you can't provide, you just lost a potential customer.

It has always been this way, even in the early PC days: companies announcing laptops and desktops with the lastest processors, but failing to release them until after many months. However, by announcing them, they managed to keep consumer interest up and to prevent potential customers from choosing a competitor's solution.

Probably a Dimensity 600 series with 2xA77 and 6xA55 along with a G57MP4 or similar.
It should power the Redmi Note 10 in 2 months along with a massive amount of budget Oppo and Vivo phones.

botox, 28 Apr 2020It's all great but I haven't seen a phone using Dimensity 1... morekeep saying that then complain later that phones are too expensive
you don't want mediatek good for you
expensive phones are because of qualcomm and their monopoly

Xiaomi do it again for the first cheapest mediatek 5G device or cheapest 5G phone. They already did it with snapdragon 765G.

Arif238, 28 Apr 2020What happened to their Dimensty 1000 and Dimensty 800? Are ... moreD800 was released on Oppo A92s
Lu Weibing (Xiaomi) announced a phone with D800 too
You can find 1000L on Oppo Reno 3 5g (Chinese version) and probably on a phone from Vivo (model V1938CT on TENAA's website)
Planet Computer will release D1000 on Astro Solide 5g but in 2021

In my opinion, Av1 decoding on D1000 is more interesting than SD865's features.
                    D865's decoder is obsolete.
Sad to see so many 865/765 and not enough D800/1000...(did Qualcomm have once more anti-competitive behavior?)

Not sure next event will be about a cheap model
"All inclusive" could be about mmWaves...
In december, rumors talked about mmWaves in second half of 2020 for Mediatek.

Even if I'm not interested in mmWaves (too much technical limits)

Article quote, "MediaTek to unveil a new affordable 5G chipset next week

The company already has the Dimensity 800..[and]...Dimensity 1000 and 1000L...So, what could it be?"

"So, what could it be?" It is something that lame and hapless Intel could never achieve. Instead, Intel cancelled their development of 5G, and sold their 5G business to Apple at a loss.

Apple with its upcoming iNotch 12 Series in Q4 2020 shall be kicking everyone's a$$ with their 5G endeavours.

                      Intel are beyond pathetic.

What happened to their Dimensty 1000 and Dimensty 800? Are they gonna release it any smartphone or what?

It's all great but I haven't seen a phone using Dimensity 1000 yet, and they announced it in 2019. I am wondering if any of their hyped new chips will make it to a phone before falling behind one or two generations.

It's normally that Chinese tech companies want to earn some extra money from 5g, they invented it and hold 90% of equipment. After first phones with 5g, second one will be cheaper with usuall price.

I'm interested to see this. I hope this time they support mmWave for the US.

Spanky, 28 Apr 2020It's great to see more mid-range 5G SoCs. Hopefully, we'll ... moreI agree. And with more affordable phones coming with 5G, OEMs will be forced to stop using the connectivity option to squeeze an extra $100 - $150 from their premium devices.

It's great to see more mid-range 5G SoCs. Hopefully, we'll also see some low-end 5G chips soon, to make the technology more affordable and to help more people to benefit from it.
