MediaTek's mid-range 5G SoC will built on the 7nm node
It's not the first time we hear about MediaTek's plans to bring 5G to the masses, but we now have a bit more info surrounding the planned 5G-enabled mid-range SoC to work with.
According to a reputable leakster on Weibo, MediaTek's plan to release an affordable 5G SoC in 2020 is quite ambitious. In fact, 5G doesn't sound nearly as impressive as its other specs like 7nm FinFET manufacturing process and Cortex-A76 main cores for high performance.
The company will use its own Helio M70 5G-enabled modem supporting SA/NSA dual-mode network and the best part is that the chipset will be aimed at phones costing around 2,000 CNY, which roughly translates to $280. That's going to be quite impressive if MediaTek pulls it off.
