Meizu MX5 review: Amaze U

Performance
Meizu MX5 joins the growing list of phones powered by the MediaTek's MT6795 chipset, also known as Helio X10. Unlike the name suggests, the processor is an octa-core 2GHz Cortex-A53, accompanied by a PowerVR G6200 (Rogue) GPU and 3GB of RAM.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 and HTC One E9+ are the other devices we've met so far that utilize the same chipset. The upcoming Sony Xperia M5 and Gionee Elife E8 are also coming out with the Helio X10 later this year, so it seems the chip is gradually becoming a popular choice these days.
GeekBench 3 gauges the multi-core performance of the processor and the Meizu MX5 is doing flawless.

The compound AnTuTu 5 test puts the Meizu MX5 ahead of the competition, very close to One E9+ and it beats the Redmi Note 2.

The other compound benchmark - BaseMark OS II 2.0 estimates the CPU, GPU, memory, OS and web performance and puts it all into a single score. The Meizu MX5 does great once again better than its Helio X10 siblings - the MX5 and One E9+.

Quite expectedly, a single Cortex-A53 processor core running at 2GHz is a decent performer, while eight of those are indeed a jaw-dropping configuration.

PowerVR G6200 GPU is perfectly capable of handling 1080p displays. Its raw offscreen performance is better than the widespread Adreno 405 within the Snapdragon 615, so we guess the Helio X10 would be the smarter choice for the 1080p upper mid-rangers.

When it comes to 1080p onscreen performance, it does as good as Adreno 405 running on a 720p display, which says a lot. The Redmi Note 2, which has the same GPU, does slight worse. Of course, the PowerVR G6200 is no match for the best Adreno available on the market - the 430 model inside the OnePlus 2's Snapdragon 810 chip.

The BaseMark X is another GPU stress test, which puts the Meizu MX5 in the third place, bested only by the flagship-grade's Adreno GPU's inside the Mi Note (330) and OnePlus 2 (430).

The MX web browser performs ok when it comes to JavaScript performance, but shows some really good numbers on the compound BrowserMark benchmark.

The Helio X10 inside the Meizu MX5 is an absolute powerhouse and probably the best SoC for the class. The MX5 isn't of the flagship kind - there is no Quad HD screen or blazing-fast mind-blowing GPU - but it sure feels like a premium device with such buttery-smooth performance backed up by a superb design.
There is nothing the Helio X10 can't handle on the MX5's 1080p display and we are sure the Meizu fans will appreciate the choice of platform and all the software optimizations the company has done on the Flyme launcher.

Nope, AMOLED display is better. While IPS LCD display has evolved and black level did improved it still won't beat AMOLED's absolute black. Not to mention IPS display's contrast is nowhere near the infinite contrast ratio. VA LED panel might have gon...
