Hello everyone, this is realy the best phone on this moment. I have this one for 3 weeks now, and its realy great! This note i make with the a701... The built in gps is great, and the fix is fast! Tomtom 5.21 works fine. I have no bad comment for the Mitac Mio a701. Kind regards, Jorg

I have this phone for 2 weeks, and I am really happy with it. Is is really an all in one object. The Gps built in it´s great, You don´t need to carry with you any other object.

I read several reviews here and felt i should write a few lines. I have owned the Mio for abt 2 months now.
This unit is defi faster compared to ETEN and weighs less as well. Skype works great. I used TomTom Navigator and it works great too. Gaining access to satellites takes few minutes though. One user said no MP3 ringtone. FALSE. i use MP3 ringtones. The phone has hardly ever gone in a hang. I installed MS Voice Command. Works just fine...even through my Logitech BT Headset. Sound quality over BT is averegish (it was horrible with ETEN). I also use a Septec WiFi card. Works great! The Phone is bundled with tons of accessories unlike the ETEN.
Now the Bad things - (1) Speed Dial is a joke. U cannot dial from speed dial screen. U would need to remember which position who is stored and then directly over keyboard hold and press that number. (2) There is echo problem sometimes, Have to play with volume control to make it dissapear. (3) LCD display absolutely unreadable in daylight. (4) When the device is locked, the shortcut hardware buttons are not locked. (5) Havent see a single ROM Update from Mio yet!
All in all i rank the Mio better over the ETEN units. I am satisfied with this expensive purchase!

Yeah right the ETEN G500 weighs almost 200grams.Thats like carriying a bloody shoe around.Try shoving an ETEN up your rear end heheh. You can get a wifi sd card that weighs 10 grams so 148+10 is 158grams for your wifi enabled MITAC MIO.In the cell phone business 10grams is like shaving 100 kilograms 220pounds of a sports car.Not to mention its 4mm thicker. It`ll make quite a hole in your pocket.

the screen visibility outdoors sucks. i mean really you have to use it in a dark closet or something to actually see the screen.

I have got my Mio A701 two weeks ago, and my friend's got the ETEN G500 at the same time. I am quite disappointed from the MIO, its main quality over the G500 is its size/weight and its GPS performance (due to Empheris file feature). In all other it falls way beyond the ETEN.
Its stuck 10 time a day (requires soft reset), has much slower response than the ETEN, less phone abilities (zoom SMS, full screen keyborad, conference call buttons during call and many other things). No voice command (which is embedded inside the ETEN OS) btw, I could not install it at all. It has no MP3 ringtones!!!!
Only tri-band instead of quad band, and no FM radio. Speaker volume is low - located on the back side and when it is mounted in the car, the mounting kit blocks it completely.
In the car you have to use Bluetooth earphone or speaker!!
It is not possible to see anything on the screen on a sunny day. Ringtone volume is low - I miss a lot of calls every day.
And at last, no response from MIO support regarding anything.
My suggestion: wait for other products. If you consider it as a replacment for a good mobile then, forget it.

I was wondering if anyone has actually used Memory Map V5.0 on Mio A701. I am interested in using the A701 for Hiking in the hills and having my route and position shown on an OS Map, live will be very useful.

To Clinton,
I finally went for mapopolis as my mapping software since they offer Demo that you can try before buy. It took me awhile to find out how it works by talking with their technical support thru emails. It picks up the GPS singal at a decent speed and it's on COM4 but make sure you download the all the file (s) for the GPS feature. I'm gonna try it in my car tonight and see how well it will go before I make my purchase (map packs).

To Clinton,
I guess you're right, also maybe due to the mapping software you're using. I just received mine and so far so good. I will install Pocket Street 2005 and see how much luck I'm gonna get. I heard TomTom is working with it, except its voice feature.

The GPS and Bluetooth do work together, but the GPS location becomes inaccurate when Bluetooth is also enabled. Maybe it's because of the throughput of data from both signals at the same time, or maybe there is some kind of signal 'swamping' between the two signals...?
Bought the Mio A701 in the U.K. but now using it in Australia running Destinator PN.
-I still love the product!!!!!!, but would be nice to get to the bottom of this. I will be testing it more for this issue over the next few days for a more conclusive evaluation incase it's something else.
