          Reply to Merti (from Leo)

          Hi Merti,

Many thanks for your speedy response :)

Your clarifications to my queries have been very helpful.

I'm considering Mio A702 and i-Mate 8150 and ASUS P750. But it seems Mio A702 is the only 1 out of the 3 that has a torch-light function, which is important to me. The other pda-phone that has this function is Eten X800, but that one doesn't have a numerical keypad, which i find useful for single-handed operation when typing a text message.

          Thanks again!
          Regards
          Leo

            To Dragos:
I wrote you an answer in Romanian, but they blocked it (it's English only on this site) :(
I don't know if it's dual core or not, but the GPS works perfect on this phone. It's really really fast. For example it recalculates rutes in about 2 seconds, it gets satellite signal in about 10-15 seconds.
The thing is, I didn't install much additional software on the phone, so I don't know how fast it computes when it's more "crowded". So far so good.

              Hi Leo.
              1. No, it doesn't work with the phone turned off (i just checked).
              2. It has snooze each 30 seconds (not adjustable it seams).
              3. Buttons are quite big and easy to press, but you won't use the to write messages because it will take several stylus clicks to get in the new sms window (so you'll be with the stylus in your hand already) and it's easier to write it on the touch screen full qwerty keyboard. ( it's not as easy as on a mobile phone).
              4. No, as far as I could see. But you can write a note on the screen during the call (as handwriting or even as a drawing) and on your "last calls made" list, you can see the note as an attachment to the call. It's somewhat useful.
              5. Yes, any tone to any function (it has a big window in the menu for exactly that, and you can assign a tone to every imaginable type of alarm or event).
              6. Yes, with a single touch on the side button ( the jog-dial button). You also can mute the sound during the call.
              7. Not really, at least not user profiles. It has display profiles; the sound is adjustable more convenient: on the main windows desktop it has the sounds icon and you can select either mute/ vibration/ any level of sound - it's similar to the computer windows task-bar icon.
              8. Yes.
              9. I really don't know, I don't use T9.
              10. Yes, it has a Black list, but I don't know if you can install a White list. You should know that you can install almost anything on windows mobile operating smartphones. There is a lot of software available.
I hope I was of help. Take care

                Seeking Merti's help:

                Hi Merti,

Both your user comments have been most helpful & useful. I have some questions on Mio A702 and i hope you can help:
                1. When the pda-phone is switched off, will the alarm sound?
                2. Does the alarm have Snooze function?
                3. Are the keypad buttons hard to press? (i'm a heavy sms-user)
                4. Can the recording function record a phone conversation?
                5. Is it possible to assign different ringtones to different tasks and alarms?
                6. When the pda-phone rings with an in-coming, is there a way to mute the ringing but not to reject the call?
                7. Does it have Profiles?
                8. Can sms messages be moved to and from the sim-card?
                9. After we have created our words in the T9 dictionary, can we edit those words?
                10. The pda-phone only has Black List for Call Filter, do you know if there is any downloads to add a "White List"?

                Lotsa questions...sorry...but i'm seriously considering this pda-phone.

                Regards
                Leo

Review update: I have now a full month of usage, and:
GPS is exceptional still, works very very fast and accurate. It works fine without an external gps antenna even indoors.
It has that 1 sec delay after accepting an incoming call, like on the old A701, but is not so annoying.
Menu and application working speed is very good, so the processor speed is enough, even after installing extra software.
Wi-fi usage poses no problem. it connects on it's own to existing networks after about 30 seconds.
Picture clarity is good, but the colors in auto mode are quite dark, so you have to keep it in Cloudy mode.
Battery life is good, 3 days average. It held 4 days once. Battery life when used as gps device is up to 5 hours, so pretty good.

And another minus is that the audio jack is 2,5 mm, so the standard 3,5mm isn't usefull.

I got the A702 recently and it's a fantastic phone. I was a little bit stressed because it's a new model and there are very few user reviews available.
First of all, it's way better then the former A701: has wi-fi, no more screen day visibility problems (it has brightness adjustable screen and the package comes with a anti-reflexive screen plastic cover), and there is no delay in recieving calls.
Package is very generous: black leather case, sylus, car charger, wind-screen mount, house charger with europe and us socket adapters, software cd (2)usb cable and hands-free.
The camera is good (ISO goes up to 400) and I really like the fact that it can print the gps coordinates on each photo you take. You also can send SMS with your present coordinates.
GPS works perfect, very fast and acurate. I installed IGo on it (taking only 200 MB from the 1GB internal memory). Very good satellite signal even indoor (I don't think I'll have to buy any external antenna).
!!!Windows run very fast, no delay at all, so all those who wore worried about it having only 200MHz can rest at ease. Of course, I haven't yet installed many additional programs.
The screen is the best part: even if it's not VGA, it looks great and it turns at any side of the phone at the touch of a button. It's also very bright (adjustable). The media player software is very good: it plays anything (any format, any resolution) on full-screen and it looks great. The touch screen is resonably sensitive and you rarely need to use the buttons. Actually, the numeric buttons are quite useless I think.
The speaker is decently loud, you can set an mp3 as the ringer by using the provided software.
Battery life is very very good: I think an average of 3 days. It has a smart energy save program which teaches you how to improve the battery life (kill the sounds, dim the screen bla bla bla)
It also reads hand-writing pretty acurately.
It has vibration and decent torch light option.
There are lots of slots and buttons going around the phone (usb, gsm antenna slot, gps antenna slot, trans-flash card slot, camera button, gps button, ear plugs jack and a smart jog dial for easy scrolling).
A few minuses: - when using speed dial you have to press 3 buttons in stead of just 1 (as normal)
                              - the on-screen keyboard and generally the on-screen buttons can only be pressed with the provided stylus (too small for fingers)
                              - wi-fi works, but connecting to the internet via wi-fi(with Internet Explorer) is difficult to configure and the user manual is of no help. I'm still working on it.
