Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) review
Design, build quality, handling
The Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) adopts the Motorola Edge 50 series design, which we consider as one of the best Motorola designs. It is clean, no-nonsense, and pretty unique.
The Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) is a beautiful device with a flat glass front, flat plastic frame and a mostly flat back panel covered with an eco-leather layer. You can get it in Caramel Latte (ours) and Scarlet Wave (red) colors.
There is no word on the glass brand atop the screen. The frame has a matte finish, which is helpful for grip and handling. Unlike other Edge 50 devices available worldwide, the frame here is wider and very flat, meaning the screen and back side don't curve as much.
The back is the real showstopper not only because of its incredibly grippy and nice-looking eco-leather but also because of the seamless design. There is no obvious camera housing here; the back just slowly envelops the two cameras and the flash without any borders, frames, or interruptions whatsoever. You can tell this is our favorite part, and it is the design Motorola used on the Edge 50 series.
The two cameras are surrounded by thin metal rings for anti-scratch purposes for the lenses.
The phone's design is touted as water-repellent, which usually is equivalent to something like IP52 rating, though Motorola does not quote a particular IP number. Either way, it's basic dust and splash resistance. It is not water-tight, and you should not submerge it in water.
The front is home to the new 6.7-inch OLED screen. It has reasonably thin bezels, offers plenty of colors, has a 120Hz refresh rate and should be quite bright, according to Motorola.
There is a small punch-hole for the new 32MP selfie camera. Above the front imager is the earpiece, which also doubles as a stereo speaker.
The Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) offers an under-display optical fingerprint scanner, nicely fast and reliable, as usual.
The other stereo speaker is at the bottom of the Moto, next to the stylus bed. Here, you can also spot the USB-C port, the 3.5mm audio jack and the mouthpiece.
The stylus bed is in the bottom right corner - the opposite side of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It is the exact same length and nearly the same girth as the Galaxy S Pen. The best part, even if serving no other purpose than stress reliever - it is clickable like the S Pen.
The Moto's Stylus is passive, though, there is no Bluetooth connectivity and no functional buttons on it. This means you cannot use it as a remote camera shutter, for example.
The Moto G Stylus 5G supports microSD card storage expansion, which will be appreciated by many.
Finally, the back has the 50MP primary camera, the 13MP ultrawide/macro imager and the LED flash.
The Motorola G Stylus 5G (2024) measures 162.6 x 74.8 x 8.3 mm and weighs 190 grams - this is the same size as the Edge 50 Fusion, but 1mm thinner and 12 grams lighter than the G Stylus 5G (2023) model.
We liked the Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) for its beautiful design, solid build, secure grip and comfortable handling, and great looks. It is a phone we think most users will easily love.
