i had this phone for about a year. as far as switching countries and stuff its great and does this automatically YOU DO NOT NEED TO SWITCH ANYTHING YOURSELF. but it breaks every month and the battery sucks!this goes for all the motorola phones! I used Motorolla since 1995 but i hav had enough the design is good but the battery once again is horrible. Because of the breaking problems my phone company(pelephone in israel) no longer supplies insurance on this phone because they do not want to deal with A840 anymore and the refuse to sell it too.

It's a great phone just came back from Europe (GSM mode) and used it there came back to USA, change the network in one click of the menu back to (CDMA)and was using back home. You only use Verizon in in the US, just one account. They have roaming agreements in most other countries.
Roaming is not cheap but it is useful to have one number world wide.

No BLUETOOTH! No Web Browser! PIX have to be stored to the card, and then moved elsewhere. But that's what you get, for having a world phone. CDMA Web Browsers only work with the provider the phone is made for. It uses CDMA primarily. Only has European GSM frequencies. In North America, will only work with a CDMA Cellular Provider. Reception, is GREAT!

Am advised from Telstra shop toowoomba today that phone has been withdrawn. no date available as to when it will be re-released or what its problems are.
Any one with any clues. Motorolla were of little help

This phone is avaiable in australia, went to crazy johns at broadbeach gold coast very helpful, it is available on both gsm/cdma, and is very simple to switch modes (dont have to turn phon off or anything!!!!) - telstra do it on a 2in1 call solution package, making it affordable with a cdma and gsm service. No b/tooth or ir is disappointing

Can now get this on Telstra network in Australia. But I would try EBAY first - much cheaper !!!
