Anonymous, 25 Sep 2012Hi I'm on rooted 2.3.6 stock. I uninstalled and freeze some... moreNo need to unroot or remove any apps, just go ahead . But, before that, you'll need to backup your entire phone including apps and settings because you'll most probably need to do a factory reset (FDR) after the upgrade. I didn't have to freeze any apps, but that would depend on what you have installed.

Anonymous, 25 Sep 2012Hi,
There is no network issues as such, its runs smooth :).
Thanks for feedback!
Are you a VODAFONE user in Mumbai.
Actually I am about to buy ATRIX2. But I was concerned after looking at the various posts about the network issue of VODAFONE and I was thinking I should not regret after paying.
What did you recommend?

AnonD-72136, 18 Sep 2012dont upgrade Stay on GB Only.. Worst part we cant go back t... moreJust do a backup (or keep your backup from GB ready. The upgrade process would have warned you to take a backup before the upgrade.)
Then do a factory reset. ICS will rock after that (I have another post here a little more in detail).

ICS (Android OTA) update 4.0.4 672.1.18.en.03 Asiaretail works absolutely great!
However, the update process s***s big time
.
I updated to the official Android OTA ICS update in India and like most others on this forum found that the update was a big sham, slowing my phone down and making it virtually difficult to use the phone. The free RAM on the phone came down to about 150MB after a boot, and I couldn't root my phone becaus adb simply wouldn't recognize the device over USB. Many apps failed. Contact sync with my gmail a/c failed after the update.
Since rooting was essential for me and I had also backed up everything using Titanium backup in GB, the only solution after checking most forums was to do a factory reset while in ICS. (I did an additional SMS backup using 'SMS Backup & Restore, and copied my SD card manually to my comp). And boy, what a huge change! The new ICS performs way better than GB and at first go there is more than 500MB ram free and it works like zip! It also re installed all apps (from the Play store only) I had before on GB; non standard apps and some app settings were restored from my gingerbread titanium backup. Adb started working again and I could root the phone effortlessly (from a thread on xda-developers -
[INFO] What you need to know about ICS and your Atrix 2 ).
Obviously Motorola goofed up on the update process by itself, but if you are willing to spend an additional couple of hours on the backup and restore and the factory reset, this is great update indeed!
[ If you are still on Gingerbread/2 3 6:
- Back up your phone (Titatnium works great, but you need root). Also ecommended: SMS BAckup & Restore and RAM Booster.
- Upgrade to ICS OTA using recommended procedure.
- After completion of upgrade, perform a factory reset (System settings->Privacy->Factory data reset)
- Set up/verify your google/gmail account to sync contacts, calendar, etc.
- Set up your wifi and turn 3G or other mobile data off because device will start downloading all apps that you had downloaded from the play store and are compatible with ICS.
- Add back all accounts that you had earlier pop/imap emails, facebook, dropbox, firefox sync etc (settings->accounts&sync).
- root the device if you need to (titanium backup would need that).
- reinstall apps that were installed manually or from outside play store from either your backup (titanium would have backed up your apps and personalized data). or manually.
Hope this helps folks who are regretting their update from GB and will encourage those on GB to upgrade.
