Got this phone on ebay too, £180 with import taxes and shipping.
I got the red one, which I think looks better than the finger magnet black one.
The bad:
The phone is very slippery, and sweat sticks to it - not good! It feels that if falls to the floor, will break apart; hopefully not. Ordered a cover, let's see if it will look good in it...
The screen, despite being gorgeous, has the red channel to high and pictures on the phone (specially skin colours) always look too red, or overtanned. Red and orange colour are unreal. Skin colour looks unflattering, and you never know how the photos really look in reality, before posting them anywhere.
If all Droid Mini users right to Motorola about this situation, they could issue an update with the option to choose screen mode, such as Samsung S4 for example, which allows to choose different screen colour temperature presets to the taste of each owner.
The camera, despite amazing hardware, is let down by poor software. (the camera hardware is actually capable of recording 4k - ultra hd - videos... and has two processing chips and has 1.4 micron pixels - which to phone camera standards are big! The hardware is good).
Imaging processing can't pull the 10 mgpx resolution, leaving pictures more in comparison to a 5mgpx camera. Also skin processing is smudgy, sometimes people seem to have make up.
The camera chooses iso too high, which induce in a lot of noise and lack of resolution.
The best photos on this phone came from having the HDR option always on, specially inside and at night.
Or another camera app which you can control iso, shutter speed, etc manually... which is a pain in situations you just want the phone to take nice pics in automatic mode.
Since the camera app is updated independently of the phone's os updates, there is hope for the future. In fact, many things got better after the the first camera update, and Motorola should be continuing improving the processing algorithms.
Battery life is not the best. Apparently this will be improved in the next os 4.4.3 update. Still I can get a day and half. (disabling all verizon apps, helps - which also remove them from the app tray. Also don't have "always listening option" enable which preserves battery life and avoids nsa hearing all I say). "Battery life repair" a free app on the store also helps to sort some battery errors.
4G band doesn't work where I live, so stuck to 3G (at least has the fast hsdp 42mbps and not 21 as wrongly described in gsmarena).
Sar levels could be lower.
The Good:
Looks great in black and red.
Phone size is amazing. I feel like I'm holding a phone in my hand, still with all the same capabilities as my S4.
(I'm not against choice and variety, but this thing of getting the screen bigger every year, it is getting ridiculous. At least bring same specs flagship phones with different screen sizes, instead of bring mini variants with dumb down specs).
Very small side and top bezels, and thin profile. Considered buying a Z1 Compact but I wanted a small phone and the Z1 Compact is big and has onscreen buttons, which makes it a 4" screen).
Droid Mini feels great for single hand use, and it is discreet in a jeans pocket.
Amazing screen ratio/ to phone dimensions.
In fact, since the buttons are off-screen, the screen area is basically the same of a 4.7" screen with on-screen buttons (except for photos and videos where the buttons disappear).
The screen has a high pixel density, which makes it clear, and it is very very bright.
The phone is very quick in accessing apps and regular tasks. (Quicker than my S4 Advance with the snapdragon 800). Moto's almost stock android experience is great.
Ram is 2gb, is up there with all top end phones, the phone never hangs with loads of apps opened.
Same graphics Adreno 320 as the regular Samsung S4.
Phone is splash resistant with a nano layer over the electronic components. Moto G and Moto X with the same nano splash resistant layer were submerged under water for 30 mints and were working without any problems. So Droid Mini should be fine too.
Call reception is good and clear.
Listening to audio is great, the sound output through headphones is very vey loud without being distorted; better than S4. Despite being mono, the speaker outputs good clear audio too.
Twist to launch camera app is great.
______________
Only mini phone out there that tops the Droid Mini is the Z1 Compact, however that has the dimensions of a 4.7" screen phone which counteracts the point of buying a mini phone.
G2 mini recently available goes for about £250 and doesn't have hd screen, has big dimensions, only 1gb ram, despite being quad-core it's a much lower variant that de dual core of the Droid, graphics are not very good etc... Only good thing is 4g.
_______________
Droid Mini is a great phone at a great price. Hopefully Motorola in this year's iteration, will bring a global version of it, or at least make it with all 4g bands. Apart from that only the camera software and screen colours are not great, but both can be resolved with future updates- there's hope.
So, all in all, this phone is F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C!!!

I purchased a new Droid Mini about 2 weeks ago from a small cell phone dealer in my local mall. The dealer had unlocked Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini's as well so I was able to compare the two side by side.
I'm quite impressed with the Droid Mini's performance and value. The Mini is a Verizon exclusive but comes factory unlocked so you can use your GSM carrier's Nano SIM card in it. I currently use NET10 with the Mini and have not had a single problem with services such as call, text, MMS, and data.
The Mini uses the same internals as the larger Droid cousin, the Droid Ultra. The quad core GPU is amazing and will play Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas with ease using the recommended settings the game comes with right from the Play Store. The 1.7GHZ dual-core CPU and 2GB of RAM also lend a major hand to its great preformance. The Mini comes with 16GB ROM and out of the box, I believe I had 11GB available to use. The Mini has no SD card slot so you are stuck with the device's internal memory. The Mini has since been upgraded to KitKat 4.4 so you'll have the latest Android OS.
The Mini uses the Kevlar build like the Droid Ultra but for some odd reason it's covered in a slippery black transparent plastic casing which gives me chills to think about the phone slipping from ones hand. The back of the phone is a smudge magnet as well so you'd better get a case. The screen uses Gorilla Glass which is edge to edge. The display is clear and bright.
The volume rocker comes out to insert your Nano SIM card. This part of the phone is the only true "cheap" feeling part about it.
The 10 Megapixel camera is magnificent to say the least. I'm used to the lower end Samsung Galaxy phones like the Exhibit, S2, and others which use a 5-8MP camera. The Mini can also shoot 1080P video which looks well. I believe it'll shoot at 30FPS.
Overall, I really enjoy this phone. It's quick, well built, and can multitask with the best of them. I highly recommend anyone interested to check them out.
