Yeah! Yeah! Yeah! This phone is really good in ONE thing and that's have a bombastic speaker but... Hang on!!! This is a freakin phone and not a mini hi-fi and if you wanna have great speakers and not a top notch phone... Go get yourself a stereo Hi-Fi system LMFAO!!!

to Unknown - i lost built-in ringtones. too bad i'm in US & cannot get anything to replace them from motorola site (since e398 isn't sold here yet) i'll have to DL something from 3rd party, but i wonder what i lost...

cause me and my friend had bought these two phones togather around 4 months back
while his k700 has to be charged twice a day with heavy multymedia usage mine works cooly for 2 days his phones joystick function has detoriated while mine is just as new and the body of k700 though beautiful has all scratch marks while the rubbery body of my e398 is just still imaculate and pls agree the sound is not half as good as e398 . the only advantage he has is his phone has video recording ,but when u r stuck with just 41 mb of space how many clips can you record .so pls dont say anything nasty about e398 its a great phone for those who can live without video recording

To Unknown-actually, I tried both phones before deciding to get this one, and I believe I made the right choice. The K700i just has too many bugs, and its screen just can't compare to the one on this phone, and I have issues with Sony Ericsson's UI...and what the hell can you do with 41MB?
Oh, and don't put down this phone if you can't even say a single VALID reason as to why you think this phone is junk!
Before saying stuff like that, make sure you have facts to back it up!
Unlike you, I base my posts on facts, not just on my opinion.

got myself this so called 'fab' phone 2 weeks ago by trading in my K700i and well... this is a piece of junk compared to my previous phone and please... I hope you people will post honest comments in future regarding these 2 phones and for moto fans... don't put down K700i when you DON'T even use the phone before so NOW!!! I'm going to trade this piece of moto shit for my K700i again... DUH!!!!

To me-I was talking about the phone..go to menu-->settings-->connection...you should have bluetooth and the USB option in here...
To question-as I have said many, many, many times before, you can record video but you won't be able to use the memory card. people, read through the thread before asking questions! A lot of of the questions being asked have been answered before!
To Adhitya-you made the right choice...get the 96R firmware to eliminate the laging ion the menus.
To Vict-just being nice...^_^
To HelloMoto-yes, anybody who says the K700i has better speakers than this phone is probably deaf or something.

I had heard the speakers of SE K700i. Anybody who says that K700i has better sound is talking crap. Although this phone isn't perfect, the sound really stands out. :)

Dont take it hard.
I dont think e398 better than k700.
coz it has a weakness 2
i just prefer 2 use e398,
so i trade my k700 2 e398 100 days ago.

I just trade my k700 for e398. I dont think e398 much better then k700, but it is better for me 2 have e398 then k700.
Coz....
-e398 easier to turn the speakerphone then k700.
-i think keypad's e398 much comfort then k700
-u can change ur sms tone more personal when u have e398
-i dont need 2 charging my e398 everyday like k700
-of course it (e398) had better speaker and expandable memory
-i have trouble 2 connect 2 my pc via bluetooth with k700.
-u dont need 2 buy usb cable anymore.
-and more..
But, it have weakness 2 like..
-e398 dont have infrared like k700
-e398 to slow (compare to k700)
-k700 lighter then e398
-e398 cant record video
-e398 dont have radio
-and more..
But i think, i make a correct decision to change my k700 for e398.

The connection wire to the PC comes along with the package for E398. It's quite useless to have all that 'whopping memory' and mp3 functions if you can't transfer files from your PC to phone, and vice versa. So, it's really good that Motorola included the wire in the phone package. Whereas for K700i, you'll have to spend quite a bomb getting the connection wires and stuff. Most of my frns using the K700i usually don't bother. At the end of the day, many so-called superior functions in the phone are left idle. And, if you compare the E398 speakers with the K700i speakers, it's very obvious that the E398 speakers are very much superior. It even has bass. Surprisely, it doesn't drain the battery life by alot. And yes, I totally agree that the material used for the E398 is amazing. To date, my phone still looks as good as new. 3 cheers for Motorola!

Can you record video on this phone? cuz im about to get a new phone, but it's really hard to decide.. it either E398 or Samsung E810.. recording video with sound means a lot to me.. which one should I buy???

^_^x Are you talking about conection settings on the phone or PC, If for phone i have no idea how to, For PC I am possitive it is set to USB and not bluetooth or IR. If i can't get this to work can i just get a SD car reader/writer and use that to transfur mp3 to the phone. If i do this will they work?

does anybody know how to remove the tick in wap sessions i cannot seem to change the default settings its such anoying having to go through the settings just to use gprs on a diffrent network

To Confused G@l-yes, you won't regret getting this phone.
To ME-It should work properly with XP...try checking your connection settings...look if you have selected USB or the other option.
To Beni-yes, you won't be able to use the transflash since the V620 doesn't have a transflash card. The latest firmware version I know of is 96R. It makes the phone a lot faster (specially when typing SMS), it adds the option to use your phone as a USB drive, and it other stuff as well.
To motorola fan-get the E398...much better than the K700i in many ways.
To Good one-the E398 indeed have the best speakers in a mobile phone right now...I compared them side by side...nothing sounds better than the E398.
It cannot record videos to the transflash card since it doesn't really take videos anyway...you can save pictures to the card directly though.
And yes, it is true that Samsung and SE have better polytones, but that's only in terms of channels...that only makes the phone look good on paper, in reality, it doesn't sound that different specially when you hear them through the E398's speakers.
The K700i does have mp3 ringtones, but it doesn't sound as good as the E398.
Which leads me to say this to you-the K700i loses overwhelmingly to the E398.
To Mr.Wong-as I said before, the MIDIs don't really sound that different though the E398 has less channels because of the superior speakers...and would you really use polyphonic tones when you can use mp3 ringtones? Come on!
Although it doesn't have a radio, a radio headset can be bought for a low, low price. The fact that it is not built-ion doesn't really make it worse than the K700i as you still need to plug-in the headset to use the Radio anyway.
And the Menus are not terrible...they are in fact surprisingly intuitive...and they're not as slow, sluggish, and laggy as that on the K700i.
And actually, the material that the E398 is made of is very good...it is very resistant to scratches and no fingerprints and smudges are left all over it...unlike on the K700i.
And the K700i is indeed lighter and smaller...but not by much! It's a very small difference!
And really, how can you call it a multimedia phone when it doesn't even have expandable memory!
To Vict-yes, it can use mp3s as message alert tones and alarms, and themes are actually just a collection of pictures and sounds...it's the skins you really want to make...As for the software from the V635...I have no idea...try checking out www.howardforums.com.

Does E398 support MP3 as MESSAGE ALERT and ALARM TONES. Is the software for making themes for E398 supported in Windows 98? And can the software for Moto V635 be used to E398? Thanks for your replies

The Video recorder from the K700 is also unlimit.And i think that the E398 cannot direct record too the MMC.
