GetPeid, 24 Sep 2024Nobody cares about benchmarks anymore. A phone is a phone, ... moreAgreed, an all-rounder phone for me will always be better than a one-trick pony that only has good performance and nothing else. The Edge 50 Neo seems like it could be the perfect phone for me because of the compact size, clean UI, long updates, promising camera hardware, and decent price.
No offense to mobile gamers who prefer the Nord 4, Poco F6 or any other performance-oriented phone over this, but if I wanted to game on-the-go, I'll just take out my Nintendo Switch. It has much better games than mobile anyway.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2024No, just someone with more insight... You do realize Cortex... moreI think you need to stop smoking whatever kush you bought from your dealer because he definitely scammed you.
I never said anything about flagship killer. Also you need to understand that it takes more than just the processor to make a phone good, then again maybe you're just stubborn. To me you seem to have almost no insight whatsoever. Do you even know how awful Tensor actually is? I bet you never owned a Pixel.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2024No, just someone with more insight... You do realize Cortex... moreIt's a matter of choices :
Nord 4, better soc but entry level camera setup (50+8+2). Even 50MP IS a 1/1.95".
Neo, mid range soc, but better camera setup (like vanilla S24), IP68, LTPO, wireless charging...
In my opinion Neo fits better to what most people need.
True, if you're a gamer, Nord 4 or Poco X6 Pro are a better choice.

Anonymous, 24 Sep 2024No, just someone with more insight... You do realize Cortex... moreNobody cares about benchmarks anymore. A phone is a phone, not a gaming handheld or a video editing rig.
If Motorola didn’t choose this chip, they wouldn’t be able to afford a cost-effective product with telephoto lens, LTPO tech, wireless charging coils, IP certification costs, HDR certification costs, compact-size, etc.
We already have too many phones with over-powered chips, why not have a phone that decides to have a different trade off & focus on the all-around user experience? That’s why Edge 50 Neo is disruptive to the whole industry.

Don't care about how well it performs NOW, because, in time it will show its limitations. There's a reason Google dropped ARM v8 design in past 2 Tensors. ARM v8 is a dying breed, time to move on. Besides, you can't call a phone with Dimensity 7300 a flagship killer... Now, Nord 4... that's a flagship killer!

Quick question : is Gorilla Glass 3 protection enough on this or a screen protector is necessary. Reason i ask is i have never used a screen protector or a case on my current phone and don't want to get both but was a bit worried about GG3 in here as current phone has GG5 and seems to be working great till date

The greatest flagship killer of 2024!
It's the first in it's price point to bring:
- Telephoto lens
- LTPO
- 460 ppi Pixel density (which apple is notorious for)
- wireless charging
- IP68 with MIL-STD-810H
- First Moto with 5 years of major OS upgrades
- First Moto (in a while) with a flat screen
All while being more compact than all the budget offerings from other manufacturers.
There are no major deal breakers with this phone, only nitpicks. (lack of reverse wireless charging) It's too good to be true & will probably force Samsung, Xiaomi & Apple to bend the knee & start competing instead of getting away with useless macro, useless premium materials, thick bezels, bloatware, high PWM, virtual proximity sensors & what not.
Note: Rumors suggest Moto could be making a rebranded ThinkPhone variant with tougher glass & slimmer bezels. Stay tuned!

I've just bought the phone. £299 UK. 3 deal. 512/12gb. Here's my mini review after a week coming from a S20fe 5g.
Compact size is awesome. Only .1 inch smaller display than previous so not missing the real estate but loving the ease of 1 handed use. Battery life is all day comfortably. Don't play games so can't report on performance but for UI, app installation, browsing i can feel the superior speed over the S20.
Camera is decent. There is a bit of a delay after the shot taken in photo mode, but if use pro mode there's no issues. So must be a bug. Pro mode takes better pictures anyway so no real issue there.
Software wise it's everything is smooth. Transition from one UI to hello UI is not that big difference. Just have to learn Motorola's unique way of doing things.
Easy recommendation especially for UK buyers. As of posting the 3 deal is still live.

Query to those who've been using it already -
1) how is the camera app behaving? any issues with that, as there are a lot of app issues reported in other phones of edge 50 series?
2) How is the battery backup? I'm not a gamer, have moderate usage and I'm still using my Moto Z2 Force that is now showing signs of fatigue ;)
