frosword, 03 Aug 2017Have you thought about Oneplus phones?I did. But due to financial constraints I am forced to look the other way i.e. Chinese phones (Doogee, Umidigi, Elefone, etc.) and much older phones like the Nexus 5X (so-so performance, weak speakers output, etc.), Xperia X (small screen for my needs but decent/so-so performer).

My Moto G4 screen has cracked broken after it fell face first flat on the pavement. The race is on to find a replacement ASAP. As much as I want the new G5S phone it STILL lacks a compass ( a necessity for me), no USB Type-C, no water resistance powers. I need a phone with the very "basic' of requirements as follows:
1. Compass/e-compass &/or magnetometer
2. USB Type-C (not compulsary)
3. 4.7" screen & above (preferably 5.1" & above)
4. Faster Cat-6 4G LTE speeds
5. A speaker with a loudness of 75db or above
6. Screen brightness of 500nits & above
7. 3GB RAM or above
8. Cameras which takes natural-looking photo, great dynamic range, contrast, less overexposed photos and and great in low-light
9. Under £300 or €300.
I'm open to suggestions from some Chines phones.

Nadalion, 27 Jul 2017What are the main features you want your mobileto have? The same as the Moto G4 or G5 Plus 5.2" screen & above) but with a compass (as i use Google Maps everyday for work purposes), a faster Cat-6 4G LTE, a front or down-firing speakers with 75db minimum loudness (the very least), a 3000mAh battery (the very least) for true all-day use, excellent sunlight readability ( AMOLED? Super LCD?) and one which will survive in the odd rain or accidental drop in the sink (advanced nano coating? basic IP-rating?).

AnonD-682140, 04 Jul 2017My phone keeps flickering. Anyone knows why?Go to settings >> More Tab >> About device.
-Find "Build number" and click 6 times fast on it.
-You will then get the message saying: "You are now a developer"
-Come back to Home Screen, and then go back to Settings >> More Tab >> Now you will -see the "Developer Options"
-Now go to Developer options >> Drawing Section or Rendering Section >> Find "Turn off hardware overlays" or "disable hardware overlays" >> This will force the phone to always use GPU for screen compositing

Plan on replacing my ageing Moto G4. I have many choices:
1. Nokia 5 - inferior chipset but decent performance and better GPU but no water resistance
2. Galaxy A5 2017 - dull-looking photos, expensive for its specs/class and questionable multitasking but great water resistance, smoother UX/UI, 1.5 day battery life & loud speaker
3. Honor 9 - Affordable for its specs but not a fan of EMUI, questionable sunlight readibility (i.e. different/odd screen colour calibration) and no water resistance
4. Xperia Z5 - better specs than Moto G4 on paper but maybe stuck with Nougat 7.0, camera/performance is showing it's age and is slow
5. Moto G5 Plus - having no compass (which is a must as i use Google Maps for walking navigation), no proper water resistance and a newer model coming
6. iPhone 6S - a safe bet but it is iOS, questionable battery life and has no water resistance
7. Galaxy J5 2017 - budget Samsung, low-par camera, questionable performance, great battery life, NFC + fingerprint scanner but no proper water resistance.
Any comments, suggestions & advice please?

If you are android use... moreSo, like the Moto G4 with no compass for basic navigation and stuck at Nougat 70 and the Moto G5 which may get stucj at Nougat 7.1.1 forever and again no compass. I'm reluctant to go back to an Xperia as all my experiences have shown poor battery life.

Unusable back camera, very bad, unfortunately, because in every other aspects it is a very good phone. We can't talk about low light situations, because it is unusable even in very good artificial lightning. There are 2mpx or 5mpx front cameras that perform better than moto g4's back camera. The last time I'm getting a phone after reading "professional" reviews. No, you can't use words like "decent in this price range" regarding the camera.

Trying to replace my Moto G4 with another phone. But talking about battery life thinking about doing all the known battery saving tips that you can think of (from turning off NFC, bluetooth, Airplay, GPS, background syncing, tracking, etc. on an iOS device) would you say an iPhone 6S Plus would be better than a Moto G4 or vice versa?

YJ, 03 Jun 2017GSM phone should work with any phone company anywhere .My wife and I have the Moto G4 and she is on Cricket (AT&T) and I am on Verizon ( Totalwireless). NO problems yet. I think most problems are due to App issues. How can any mfg verify every App. I had and iPhone 5s and if was flawless with any App I installed.

My partner and I both have Moto G4 supplied by Carphone Warehouse in UK.
Were both on Android Nougat with no battery issues as far as we can tell. Phone can be charged on morning and be used for instant to 9.40pm and it's now at 73% with 1 day 10 hours left on the battery.

Pretty good phone if one likes stock android. Only problem i have compared to other phones is poor voice quality of speaker. What i especially like in this compared to gf's huawei P9 lite is faster and (way) more reliable gps.
Now after a year of use battery life seems bit worse than it was but i usually end up replacing battery once per 1½ years with my smartphones, so that seems normal.
