To start google assistant..
Set phone language to US English...
Then clear the Google app ...
Relaunch it..
Enjoy Google assistant!

Actually, I set the language to English US. Cleared the data of Google app and Google play services. Then launched the Google app and the opened its settings and then set up the Google Assistant.
Type your nickname and set the pronunciation. Its working extremely well. Voice recognition is top notch. And I think I will get used to using my Moto g5 plus with voice commands. Its really great to use it since sometimes I get bored of typing what I need to search.it even sets alarm plays music and much more. Though I am still not sure about the exact difference between Google now and Google Assistant. I think Assistant is an updated and more personalized version of Google now.
