As for the competing companies, I would never recommend e.g. any of the Chinese brands (in the nearest future). Actually, I wouldn't recommend any brand this year at all: nothing looks like a good value yet, better choose from last year models (or 2-year old models for Motorola).
The goal is to make people aware and make companies like Motorola to learn the lesson: there is no demand for low quality junk. Improve!

Regarding bad G7 battery: I had to disable Moto Actions on my X4 to get decent battery life: this app was draining battery like crazy in standby mode. Might help with G7.
What also might help is reading G6 reviews on Motorola site and thinking twice before considering G7. In addition to other complaints, Moto phones are extremely fragile now, my X4 cracked in my pocket being in a protective case. You'll see same problems reported for G6 and Z3. And Motorola doesn't fix their phones, they are only selling you "replacements" having the same terrible quality.
This review is my favorite: "salesman assured me that it wasn't (fragile), then lightly tapped it on the counter. The back shattered!"
