I hear a lot of people saying they need to use blue light filter at nights because their eyes hurt.
Blue light filter was never designed to alleviate eye pain, it was designed to stimulate the part of the brain that associates red light with nighttime to help you sleep.
But I believe it also helps mask the pwm at low brightness, because a flickering red light is less harsh than blue .

Mxxl, 10 Feb 2025yes, that's PWM problem, I know about that, but statem... moreCorrect me if I'm wrong but doesn't Pwm works by turning the screen on full brightness the off again at different intervals to trick your brain into seeing a lower brightness.
Does that mean that for a split second your eyes see a searing (for example) 2000 nits brightness , because that surely has to be more damaging to your eyes than an lcd that lowers it brightness by lowering the current (I doubt I'm right, I'm usually not) .
I only say this because I have been using lcd's for year with no issues (because all oled gave me terrible eyestrain and headaches) , but last year I managed to find an oled that doesn't hurt my eyes at all (vivo v30 pro) .
However I'm now finding it hard to focus on anything that isn't close range.
I think I will buy an lcd phone just in case (if I can find a decent one) , but In the meantime I'm going to have to use your advice and take more breaks and focus on the horizon, but it's strange that I never needed to do that before.

Unusably bad camera - the front-facing camera specifically has such extreme post-processing and sharpening (can't be turned off) that I look like I was cooked in a volcano if I try to take a selfie. All red and overexposed. Gcam kinda fixes it but it takes very blurry photos for some reason.

Anonymous, 10 Feb 2025i think oled is like the old crt tv's that have some k... moreyes, that's PWM problem, I know about that, but statement "OLED is damaging your eyes, buy LCD only" is picturing LCD screens in a way, that LCD screens are harmless, which is not true. Yes, there's no PWM, but bright light from LCDs is damaging your retina in a same way that bright OLED or any other screen is doing. I was just pointing it out and also added that if you are looking at any type of display - lcd, oled, crt, microled, qled, poled, tn, even e-ink display... for prolonged periods of times (4 hours in work for example), you should periodically (4 times per hour for at least 30 seconds) look at the horizont or somewhere else than the display to unfocus your eyes, because you are damaging your ability to focus and therefore damaging your eyes. Buying LCD over other screens doesn't mean you shouldn't care about your eyes :)

Anonymous, 10 Feb 2025That's brave browser problem to fix as other browsers ... moreI have two other phones where it does not happen so I find it strange. Thought it might be something to do with the screen maybe an aspect ratio conflict or something, so want to confirm if someone else has this using brave on this phone.

Any screen is... morei think oled is like the old crt tv's that have some kind of lines going up or down if you use a dedicated camera you will notice those strobe of lines in oled that is what usually causes headache/eye strain to certain people specially if watching in dimly light or worse dark areas/room. LCD don't really have this pwm issue even cheapo LCD's.

Guys, does anyone using the phone have issues with YouTube in full screen on brave browser? Mine is misaligned and sort of zoomed in. I know brave has an issue where in full screen it sometimes doesn't enlarge the picture and puts in one of the bottom corners but mine is different. Like I said goes full screen but picture is zoomed in and not centered so it just makes the left border huge and part of the picture is "outside" of the screen to the right so to speak. Anyone else got that with brave? I tried on Opera browser and seems to work fine there, but then I can't listen to YouTube with the screen off on Opera, at least I can't find a setting for it and the YouTube app is unusable from so many ads anyways so that's not a great option either.

Mxxl, 06 Feb 2025I don't think these statements are true. Any screen is... moreYou're wrong. Oled screens are significantly, yes, significantly more harmful than ips screens. The Oled screen is an invisible strobe light. You can't look at a strobe light all the time, right? You'll get a headache, you'll get dizzy. Some people get the same thing from watching oled screens - they also get dizzy, have headaches, feel worse. At the same time, ips screens do not cause such symptoms.
Do not use oled screens, they are very harmful.

Bruno Banani, 05 Feb 2025Oled screen is a killer for your eyesight. Perhaps you are ... moreI don't think these statements are true. Any screen is dangerous, especially when you like high brightness and looking at a screen for extended periods of time.
But yes, there are also pwm sensitive people and that is causing more like sensory issues (because of the flickering) rather than eye damage. Your eye damages the same from oled and lcd type screen. The problem here is high brightness (physically burning your retina) and extended periods of time when you don't "refocus" your eyes. Your nerves that control eye and focus movements are degrading and you start to loose eyesight. When you looking at a screen for long time, it is recommended to look at something different in the distance (out of window for example) once every 30 minutes for at least 30 seconds, so your eyes refocus and stretch nerves and relieve a strain.

dd, 04 Feb 2025Lack of oled is it’s advantage. But does it flicker on mid ... morethe auto-brightness is sometimes little wonky. Even when the brightness slider is on the lowest, you see that the screen is little too bright, especially in the night. Moving the slider a litttle higher and then back to low seems to do the trick.
But screen does not flicker at all even on lowest setting, I checked it with 640fps camera next to xiaomi redmi note 11 (oled) and that one was flashing like crazy

Have had the phone for a little over a month (USA but had someone ship me over the Motobuds edition from Aus)
Coming from a V60, its been very solid so far. First high refresh screen, LCD is tbh completely fine for me. Have used the NFC for transactions here and transit and seems to be working fine. Running this with T-Mobile. I really haven't messed with the Camera much
