Yes, it is a mid-range, not a low end phone!
It has the same specs as Moto E2, just with better camera, a costs a few more bucks. Do you think that is smart of course not!
There is no point in costing $179 if there is already moto E costing $139! That way they would have 2 products competing with one another. It price will rise surely, beeing in $200-$250. That is a market wise choice.
If you want a budget phone, don't be fool by the name and buy a Moto E2 (that have the same specs you are desiring for Moto G3). A mid range phone like Moto G has to have specs similar to competiotion

yes good specification.
but i read some roomers where it mention only caemra they are improving.
but no change in RAM. it only 1 Gb.
if its 1 Gb then it going to be utter flop.
other wise if 2 gb its good. (then Moto should give preferences to Moto Users - they should Exchange MOTO G 2 gn in less amount for exmaple 4k. for MOT G2 - 4k, MG1 5 k

still do not understand how androids can still have 1 GB ram and 8gb storage in 2015, especially when their are companies like xiaomi and huawei with these specs at very competitive prices

expect more of the moto g 2nd gen with only a better camera. it will have same display, sd410 cpu, same ram, same storage, same battery.
