spizzlo, 18 Sep 2020iPhone SE 2020 or 2016? I'm looking at getting my dad ... moreIf you're ONLY concerned with good OS, go get the SE. But this phone would be overall better. The iPhone SE has terrible specs for its expensive price.

spizzlo, 18 Sep 2020iPhone SE 2020 or 2016? I'm looking at getting my dad ... moreYour right about the updates. But motorola promise is updates as well. And also when dealing with apple it's literally like using the internet with one arm tied behind your back. Apple only lets you do so much when dealing with what can come into and out of your device. And it seems like every time you turn around you have to pay for something!! But when dealing with android your able to get into anything and everything that the internet. And I also have this very same device the Moto g power the unlocked version bought from best buy and I've used it on cricket and metro and believe me this phone is awesome!! Greatest battery life I've ever had in a device!! And I haven't really experienced any hiccups in the software or hardware. It's really a smooth running stock Android experience.

The benefits of this phone are clear, but iOS is also just so stable and I heard this phone has software hiccups occasionally. The SE will also get updates for at least 5 years probably.

Previous phone was iPhone SE. It was somewhat buggy on US Mobile, partly because of weak reception areas. I ordered Moto G Power unlocked direct from Amazon Prime and it immediately accepted US Mobile SIMM with no hickups. Exceptional battery life (3 days easily with moderate usage). Much better phone reception. Much, much, much better phone. It is a heavier phone due to beefy battery... Very happy!

The user who posted that has made a dozen posts screaming about it not being unlocked and unusable.

If you follow the guide (also posted in that thread) to flash the Verizon ROM it will work flawlessly with Verizon and it's mvnos, including wifi calling.

Motorola is aware of the issue and has said they will release a software fox at some point, but gives no indication of when.

Just ordered from Google Fi for $99 and I only have to commit to 60 days on their service. If I don't like the service then I'll switch back to US Mobile, Visible, or Mint Mobile which all use Verizon's network. I currently use US Mobile and I'm very happy with the service. I'm doing this because I am using an old Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro so I think this will be a great upgrade!!

The G Power is a garbage phone. LCD screen is bad in colors production and brightness. I have to crank 82% of brightness indoor to enjoy it, and 100% brightness outdoor barely good at all due to the LCD screen. The camera is also bad compare to my 4 years old Galaxy S7. How can this new 2020 phone camera is so trash than 2016 phone. I don't understand at all. The G Power color is so saturated and wash out than my Galaxy S7. In addition, low light picture quality is nowhere as good as my Galaxy S7.

Processor not that good for the price. Should be a SD 720G. But maybe the battery and OS make up for it. (It does have stock android, right?)

Here in North America, we still have companies that use cdma networks. For some time moto (LG) has made moto G phones "universally unlocked", meaning basically they support gsm and cdma so you can use almost any network. The G power is one of them (us version at least). G series phones of the international variety have gsm only, but tend to have two sim cards instead. G8 is a name moto does not use in the US. It is always non US, so I'm guessing no cdna. This is a important difference if you are with Verizon, want to be able to switch to Verizon (or any cdma network). Also the gsm bands can be a little different between countries. . In addition, moto (LG) seems to have put the G stylus camera in some G8 power modules? If you travel to Europe and do not ever think about using Verizon ( or other cdma networks). The G8 power is likely better, but no warrantee when purchased here in the US.

Look for G and or G8 phones with the name power. Only the US type G (8) power is likely to support a few odd (but big) us cell phone companies that is cdma instead of gsm. Even then 4g might work. Other than that the international versions are better anyway.
