Stylus 5G 2024, 28 Sep 2024Stylus 5G 2024 is currently the greatest value in cell phones. Yes, I bought two back in early August directly from Motorola US for $314.99 when is was on sale for $349.99 plus a 10% discount coupon. I was looking at Samsung A35 and the OnePlus 12R but opted for the Motorola because of better cameras, slightly bigger screen than the A35, 3.5mm jack, FM radio and a stylus. It is like a poor man Samsung S2x Ultra with a stylus at almost 1/4 the price.

Also,it is shrinking the size of the SOC to more than half which means they can fit twice as many SOC on the same wafer, it increase yield rate and reduces the amount of material to half so it lower the cost per SOC. It lower power consumption and also speed up the processor and probably more thermal efficiency.

It can mean similar technologies like all around fet but done differently. It can mean nothing, like Intel changing name from 10nm to 7nm. I'm still puzzled why so many like expensive pixels using exynos with even worse ai google stuff baked inside. A mystery of life to me.

About 4nm, It's very tricky to compare . Especially Samsung which boost like a turbo even if proc start to overflow, overburn, and suckk energy like a toaster just to go into each specific benchmark. You get the idea.

Intel and Samsung made LOT of money, and they
have certainly awesome if not the best engineers. I don't understand why they could never catch up with TSMC.

Darkness, 25 Sep 2024Just having a 4 nm processor doesn't mean it will prov... moreI said that in the context to reply to the fact that both Samsung and TSMC are at 4nm. Intel use TSMC because they are stuck at 5nm. The design is from Qualcomm and it can go to either TSMC or Samsung to the SOC produce, it probably the depending on the cost.

The post that I replied to said Samsung Exynos is the problem but this phone use a Snapdragon. It is down to the SOC design not the foundry being used to produce them according to design specs. It probably won't be any different if Qualcomm use TSMC but most likely Samsung offer a lower cost.

4nm may not make the SOC better but the smaller is generally make it more power efficient, possibly better thermal efficiency and possibly faster. That's why the industry to going down on nm and Intel is farming out to TSMC since they are currently stuck at 5nm.

Got a few ones from the samsung A series phones, and all were exoshyte toaster drainer stutter... I'm on the verge for a used stylus 2024 for a good price. I can't return if don't work well

                  Nerdy stuff there :

Intel had problems with EUV etching for a long time . They never figured out to make it work for all the layers. It's not cisc for a long time, it's decoded, kind of intermediate. The debate risc-cisc makes not much sense to me nowadays, as arm got complex instruction too, and both turned superscalar decades ago. Sure intel has its huge legacy, like, they removed the hyperthreading in lunar lakes to get rid of it a bit.

About Windows arm, it seems to have got a big leap this year. still,I read some portions of windows ( some old .sys ?) go through emulation, which is a bummer. I remember mac switching m1 emulation was quite poor despite all the claims ( I'm using daw audio software for fun and emulation was unusbale). It was just easier and got more attention from devs to compile to arm.

My argument about that if is arm was that good, datacenters would have switched to arm as they don't care windows or even pc, but they care about heat and their power bill, and high throughput a lot. can't wait those arrow/lunar lane, if they keep promise this year otherwise yes the future might be full arm...

My wife and I both have this phone for over a month now and it is pretty snappy never had seen any lag. It can update 3 apps simultaneously when there are multiple apps need to be updated in the Google Play store.

It you haven't seen the news on Intel, its flagship gen 14th i9 is a debacle with stability problem no real fix in sight from Intel. OEM motherboard manufacturers ended up releasing bios updates to slow down the clock speed and thus the chip is not performing.

Windows OEMs are now starting to switch to Qualcomm processor because of performance and battery life. Microsoft is switching their surface pro to use Snapdragon processor.

At some point you can only cramp so many transistors in a cisc processor and not as efficient as a risc processor both in thermal and power consumption and processing power. Not to mention the number of cpu states to test in cisc processor become too many.

They never catch up, and for now I guess they never will. Even Intel switched to TSMC !!!
Don't know what going on in those fabs. Maybe TSMC hold by secret alien nerds ? :)

Still a usable phone probably but many quirks blirps hitch hick and toaster drain are expected.
