Wow, month 13, battery goes bad, expands and pops the phone apart. Since warranty is over I buy a replacement battery and install it myself. Month 15, distance sensor goes bad so screen goes black when the phone is in use so you can't dial an extension or respond to Verizon's voice prompts. Month 17, fingerprint sensor just stops working. I cannot wait until this crap phone is 2 years old so I can run over it with my car and post all over social media what crap Motorola is putting out there. Sure junk folks. Stay away from Motorola!!

JACKION, 07 Mar 2019 was it just a bad battery or it is related to 7.1 update ... moreFrom my opinion, Turbocharger is the culprit here!

B, 17 Dec 2018I initially loved my moto z. I loved that it didn't come pr... moreI've had this phone for 2 years now. About half a year ago I started having the same problems, I walked around with a powerbank and the phone had to be plugged in all the time. Did some research and came to the conclusion that I had killed the battery. But here's the catch: I killed it (accidentally, of course) with the turbo charger that was included. I had the battery changed, found myself another (regular) charger and it is running very well.

To anyone thinking about buying it: it's a good phone, the battery life (with a healthy battery) is okay, if you're not a heavy user. But beware of the turbo charger that's in the box. DO NOT CHARGE THIS PHONE WITH THE INCLUDED TURBO CHARGER, at least not over an hour at a time and definitely not overnight!!! It WILL kill the battery over time.

I had the same problem. I would browse the internet and suddenly the phone will shut off even thou battery was at 80%. After installing Lineage OS the phone no longer randomly shuts down. If you have similar problem I would advise connecting it to the charger and updating the phone to the latest android version. Installing Lineage OS will void you're warranty and if you don't know what you are doing you could brick your phone.

I was using my Moto z Droid and it shut down....when I switch it on... it's just vibrate and the screen is black... please what is the fault??

I purchases my Moto Z about 3 weeks ago. I dropped it in the toilet a couple days ago. It was only 1/3 immersed in water, I grabbed it out immediately, took cover off, and dried it off. Didn't really seem to be wet at all. It worked for a couple hours when the screen got a bunch of grey lines, and it gradually went black. That's where it is now. I had purchased the insurance, which cost me $89 deductible. I have a new phone on the way, but my biggest complaint is that phones I have had (which included a Moto) in the past had gotten more water than this. The phone is way too easy to kill. Incidentally, it still rings, and if I can find the place to swipe, I can answer calls, but since the screen is black, I can't do anything else. What is up with that!! I'm pretty darn upset with Motorola over this.

B, 17 Dec 2018I initially loved my moto z. I loved that it didn't come pr... moreI had the exact same problem. it started happening coincidentally as soon as my warranty expired and every professional I asked to fix it refused because it's so hard to get the battery out without ruining the rest of the phone (apparently the screen is plastic and you need heat to melt the glue and remove the screen, but then the plastic screen has a high chance of melting.) After almost two years with a fancy wired phone, I finally got a note 8 and never looked back. Clearly this is a common problem

Using this phone for last 1.5 year, with 2 mods (TurboPower and Gamepad). It is updated to Android 8.0.0 and September 1, 2018 security patches. This phone is fast one, have decent camera, great flash and big screen, it is easy to operate one handed. If you run more demanding games, phone will heat up, so beware of that. If you can find it under 250e it is good choose even for 2019.

Good RAM, screen and battery sizes are ok but released in 2016 and android 6 ... this phone is outdated. Motorola seems to be a serious brand, I will perhaps think over the moto E4 ( not a beast either but a little more recent. I especially appreciate that its battery is removable )

So Motorola has decided not to mind anyone with this Moto z battery drainage problem. We love the phone and we love the company that's why we're talking so much for it to be fixed. If care is not taken Motorola will loose it's customers so please fix this before it's too late.

Hey guys, I also bought the moto Z , because I was once a moto fan, my moto x and moto x pure were the best phones I ever had. But this phone was something different, it was like a merc ,you know the kind which needs a lit of upkeep and doesn't offer a lot of features. But the features it does offer are astounding, like the screen and the design and with it all The magnetic case and the type c early gen. I have had 2 screen break downs and 1 battery replacement (everyone has one battery replacement). My services centre in indore is do bad they took 2 months to get the correct screen both the times, whenever the ordered they got a. Moto z play screen. This is a phone you have to learn to live with . If you have a good eye. You would really value the colours and the quad hd screen

I initially loved my moto z. I loved that it didn't come pre loaded with dozens of apps I would never use. It was sleek and I loved the idea of the mods.
Now I can't wait to get rid of it.
NEVER again will I buy a moto product. I had the battery issue most people discuss 2 months that before my warranty was up. They "fixed" it. When it came back all the report said was that they fixed the sound card? Why would a sound card make the battery drain but not actually drain? Whatever. The problem was fixed. But low and behold, it was a fucking quick fix. Cause 3 montha after my warranty was up? Yup
                                      Battery problems.
It'll be 100% and I'll turn it on, and it'll immediately shut off. I'll try to turn it on again, and it won't cause it's dead. Plug it in and magically at 65%.
It shut off during a phone call, it won't let me use the camera unplugged. Nothing. I've essentially been forced to have a very fancy home.phpne/cord phone. Because it has to remain plugged in 24/7 to function, and even then sometimes won't even work. Motorola knows about this issue, they know it's not one person or a handful, they are fully aware of is a manufacture issue because of a faulty part yet they refuse to pull the phone or acknowledge the problem to the people who bought their phone.
They are a money grubbing company that clearly doesn't care about it's rep, for some reason.
Never again will I own Motorola or a lenova product. Maybe I'll try my luck again with samaung, but lenova can go join LG in the land of shit phones.

Vee, 06 Dec 2018Same! I had a Moto Z and replaced it because I bought it ou... moreI also have the same battery defect. It started a month after the 12-mo warranty wore off. My battery goes from 100% to 65% within twenty minutes, and that's without me actively using it. It switches itself off at 80% battery if I try to use an app like Google Maps, Spotify or take photos, then can't switch it back on because of low battery until I charge it again, even though it will instantly be at 50+% percent battery when plugged into a charger. I want to smash it against a wall any least twice a day.
