No new update so far, the last update I accepted is Nougat 7.1.1 with security patched December 2017.
So far, 2 months more I use Moto Z Play, this phone works very well and battery performance is very good, charging speed is very good, fast, finished charged in less than 110 minutes.
App drawer display looks simple, with white background, list of apps is displayed from top to bottom. But, there is a lack of this phone (cons), the file manager can't to unzip a zip file. I had tried unzip game file .zip, it done without result. So I use WinZip apps, it works good. Hmm, the permission thing also complicated I thing, for example I unzip a zip file using WinZip, put the unzip file to microSD storage folder, it always tells user by showing pop up to grant permission for SD card directory. But, every time I select of path or folder (inside folder), select the place to be placed for unzipped file, it always failed. Complicated permission things on Android, since Marshmallows.
It is very different with Sony Xperia Z2 based on Android Lollipop 5.0 that can do that without need grant permission things.

Been using Z Play since December 2016 and still loving it. The Incipio mod is a great addition and my phone fell off several times with no screen damage. It feels kinda big for small hands beware.

Hello, can anyone tell me how is the gps performance, reliability and accurracy? Since it only has A-GPS but no GLONASS or BDS, its important to me that this phone can locate me precisely.

If you mean RAM, my Moto Z Play usually has around 600 MB free of RAM.

Anonymous, 26 Jan 2018I want to change my galaxy s5 to a new phone but which one ... moremoto z play is a good phone kinda slow sometimes but amazing camera although i do dislike the glass back the big camera and usb spot on the back of the phone making it kinda ugly but other then that 100% worth the money i bought my moto z play used and its still good i traded 195 bucks + my asus zefone 3 for it do y'all think it wasa good trade. and i have nothing againt the asus but it was a little slow and my sim with freedom did not work with it so ya good trade i find

Much better chipset (higher clocked CPU, newer GPU, smaller thus more efficient process node), better camera (larger pixel size, 4K video recording), better battery life thanks to the chipset, newer Android version among other things.
Not forgetting the Moto Mods expandability.

I currently have the Moto X Play (had it for exact... moreI used Moto x play for well over 1 year..it was a true beast with stock Android and battery..after seeing z play the specs are also good so I upgraded to z play...and I realized that I'm not missing anything from x play that was all present in z play...and at last the BATTERY is a BEST........ Using it over 10 months now....... Slightly better than x play....!

Hello... I currently have the Moto X Play (had it for exactly 25 months, best phone I EVER had) and I'm not a phone geek so can someone help me understand why Motorola or Lenovo is now making phones not nearly as good (from my point of view anyway)?
I was looking for a new phone since my Moto X Play is starting to slow down enough that it annoys me and it serves as my computer as well, I do everything on it...
I'm looking at other Moto phones like the Z Play and and G5 and others and the specs just aren't as good.
Whyy?? I love this phone, the battery is the best at around 3630 mAh, great camera and generally a very simple pleasant phone. After 2 years, I can still go most of the day without charging it!
I can't find anything else like that with Motorola... Why downgrade? Am I missing something??
