yanit, 03 Aug 2008hi..can you plz tell me the difference between v8 and v9..thnxYanit,
1. Differences between V8 & V9
- Built-in memory, V8 (512MB), V9 (45MB)
- Memory card slot, V8 (none), V9 (yes, micro SD)
- 3G network, V8 (none), V9 (yes)
- Operating System, V8 (Linux), V9 (Synergy)
- Phone Thickness, V9 slightly thicker, very slight.
*Keep in mind that the latest version of V8 has a built-in memory of 2GB and I'm not refering to the luxury version. I believe many countries now still have the 512MB version in stock, so if you want the 2GB version, it's better you ask them before purchasing.
2. Messages storage
Mine is the 512MB version and as of today, I got 211 messages in my inbox and 107 in my outbox but they are all text messages, not MMS. I've downloaded about 12 songs, about 14 wallpapers and stored quite a number of pictures taken from the camera - balance usable memory now is around 380 MB.
So 512 MB is more than enough for me but I'm not so sure about serious music lovers. Maybe other V8 users using it to store massive amount of songs could help with their feedback here. Well, if you are looking for massive storage especially for songs, try to take a look at Motorola ROKR E8. It's designed especially for music lovers with built-in 2GB memory and you can still add in another 4GB microSD card in the phone. I understand that the sound quality is also very good and the keypad "ModeShift", "haptics" technology should "wow" many users too.

Nisan, 31 Jul 2008Hi Stuart,
For starters, yes, your assumption is right, I ... moreNisan,
Many thanks for your feedback here. I feel good being a V8 user from your positive comments. I agreed that even though with the V8's sturdy built (stainless steel frame), I'm also handling it with extra care, like you, I don't even like to have a scratch on its body. Because of that, I got a crystal clear cover for my V8. It's a little thicker than original but still thin relatively overall. I can understand your comment on camera though, as long as we are not using it for full blown A4 prints, it's OK. (It's more or less an expectation issue individually). But the rest of your feedback on voice clarity and fast response are excellent too. Personally I like the Linux in V8, it's rather quick in response and my next phone might either be the ROKR E8 (Linux) or Z9 (Synergy OS). I'm staying away from 3G feature as I found that I don't really need it at all - got another Asus P735 with 3G but didn't put it to use too. (requires separate monthly subscription for 3G in my country). Furthermore, 3G feature zaps the battery life too.
Thanks again for your feedback Nisan.

Stuart, 30 Jul 2008Saj & Nisan,
Thanks for sharing your experience with all... moreHi Stuart,
For starters, yes, your assumption is right, I am a proud owner of the V8 (2GB):)
Comparing this mobile and my previous mobile N73 music.....umm....the price is almost the same in my place. The thing that bugged me the most in my N73 was the response time which puts the V8 way ahead of the N73. Just love the fast response. Music wise, sound quality is great for both phones, would have liked music control buttons on the headphone of my V8 though...but I guess thats ok. Looks wise the V8 is unbeatable in my perspective.....the N73 beats the V8 in terms of the cam pic quality unfortunately....
The sound is definitely different...very clear....buildwise.....N73 is a brick with cool feature....the V8,hmmm, I've read comments abt it being very sturdy but honestly I am very careful with my V8, cant bear to see a scratch on it :)

Saj, 30 Jul 2008...well guys, to be honest I am not a motorola fan but was ... moreSaj & Nisan,
Thanks for sharing your experience with all of us here, that feedbacks gave good feeling indeed for V8 users. I was a Nokia fan too years back. To be fair, personally I'm not saying Nokia is not good, it's just that through time, we tend to change priorities & tastes and discovered some other things we prefer more - in your case Nokia and Motorola. I found that at present, it's kind of difficult for me to switch to other brands even though I've been looking at other models from either Sony Ericsson, Nokia and LG as I have discovered my mobile phone requirements - call voice quality, strong signal, must be solidly built and good battery life. I got all 3 in V8 except battery life which is reasonable for its thin design. I guess any phone I use will still give me battery problem due to my high talk time each day which I accepted - I can't have it all.
From your comments, I assume both of you are V8 users and would like to know whether you notice any improvements on Motorola's Crystal Talk voice clarity as compared to your previous Nokia. How's the signal strength differences? (if any). The built of both phones? Your practical feedbacks would be good for everyone here for future phone selection.
Thanks
So it's really a personal preference on phone selection. I fully agreed with your comment.

I got the chance to try a friend of mine's Moto V8 and i think is suberb.
I really like the size of this handset. It's not small like ladies prefer and the way motorola makes their phones(in terms of design) has always impressed me.
I really like the touchscreen even if it's limited at a few keys. This phone really shines!
Bravo MOTO!

Hi everyone,
Though an ardent nokia fan, I have always been a fan of motorola v3i. SO when my nokia N73 got flicked and I came to know abt V8 2GB, I didnt give it a second thought. Got the phone and am pretty happy with it. Love the way it looks and its response time is good. The sound is much better and its definitely worth showing off :).....the only negatives I find are the display having washed out colours and the battery lasts 1 and half days at least for me....everything else is gooooood

...well guys, to be honest I am not a motorola fan but was a Nokia one. The way I judge a phone is how stable and up to the mark it is while performing according to its facilities. Nokias are dissappointing me with the last few models. I mean whats the use of having a phone If u r unable to communicate smoothly. Phones getting re-started while you are talking...thats what Nokias has become now a days... but on the other hand V8 I would say is the best ever introduced by motorola...may not be as userfriendly as Nokia but never re-starts on its own...at least you can start a conversation and end it without thinking OH MY GOD ITS GOING TO RE-START AGAIN...

Well Its been a few days since I got my V8 from my employer, but I am very disatisfaid with it, first the phone is BIG, I mean really BIG when you open it, the battery life is nowhere near as advertised, the text messaging in my phone (1st gen v8, aka 420M) also lacks T9, the training of the text predictor is of the WhatA#@$%! kind, the color is not the most atractive looking (I prefer polished aluminum,)revising text messages is better in my LG C1500! (a cheap cellphone, support for many jav2 games is lousy o none existent, lacks more shortcuts and use of the keypad for some fuctions, is SLOW starting, voice command does not work in all languages (NOT spanish! LAME), video resolution is ridiculous, the c (go back)button doesn't work everywhere, in general the OS interface should be better (it feels rushed to market)lacks external card connection (maybe due to thinness AND marketing decisions, since they had the 420MB and 2GB models; and I feel Im forgeting some thing or two, well for the price they ask is a crappy phone, pasable if you get it for free, by the way I never liked the v3 style completely since is too bulky for my taste. Pro factors: good camera, nice sound (calls), impresses the girls, some nice features. I've owned the original STARTAC, a cheap NOkia, and own the LG C1500 and now this one.

Stuart, 28 Jul 2008Bid, You are welcome, I'm just trying to help. Unfortuna... morethanks. I made regretable decisions also regarding my mobile phone purchases before. But I really like the v8 luxury a lot. I think it is one of the best looking phones ever. But maybe I'll play it safe and go with a nokia8600 or 8800arte. My current phone, the original 8800, which I use for 2 years now still works like in day one and never had a problem with it.
